hypothetically
hypothetically speaking, is it possible in all hell, that a stock 350z at 80mph should be able to keep up with a GTR to 105?
Just wondering because we talked about how much power the z seems to have from 80 - 100 at the meet tonight.

Now reliability-wise...hmmm...I'D GET ME A 370Z!!! More MPG, less speeding tickets, cuter, less expensive in all areas (buying price, mechanical repairs, etc). The GT-R IS a pocket rocket, but, for some reason, I like the 370 better...A matter of tastes, I guess!

I can say from first hand experience that the GTR will rape you. I had a chance to be on track with one earlier this year at summit point and that car made me feel like I was sitting still.

I think you could ask Robbie or Mike D, and they could give you a good impression on the chances of the Z keeping up with the GT-R. ;-)
I honestly don't think there is much of a chance if you figure the larger engine size plus the turbos and even if both cars were starting even @ a 80MPH roll, unless there is a gearing issue, the GT-R would scream up to 160mph in a a matter of seconds.

the answer is......why would just 80-105 be any different than a 0 or 30-120 or 160....just a shorter time with the same result honestly.
I've ran the GT-R more than once in my Z and he still crept off quite a bit with me running my 18psi map especially over 130/140. The GT-R is engineered with practically zero lag hence why it has no problem with the big blocks from say a Z06 or similar or pulling on a boosted Z with a similar power/weight ratio.
If you want to compare to Z's with aftermarket kits...they have lag....so IMO even a Z with simliar power will have difficulty with a GT-R...you will need more power to make up for the little lag. With that said....the GT-R's gearing allows it to pull much harder than a Z at high speeds....140/150mph +... this is an area where the "aftermarket" Z just doesn't have the solution yet honestly...regardless of power.
A Z like Alberto's though...well....it'll prob pull on a GT-R....but his Z is in a different ballpark for power.
Whats the rationale behind the Z hanging from 80-105....just a butt dyno? We know how accurate those are.

lol is this guy really comparing a 370z and the GTR? It reminds me of this kid down the street with a Honda Civic talking about how his car is much more reliable than my 350z and he'd pick the Civic over my 350z any day.

Sorry Bert.....I knew I shouldn't have thrown that in there....
And why would it be unexpected from the GT-R owners perspective? And why would they necessarily be disappointed? $$$wise....add up the mods and a Z and compare to a GT-R sticker price and tell me what you find....then take into account reliability.
GT-R owners dont really buy them to be the fastest thing on earth...b/c no matter what...there will ALWAYS be something faster, with more power, etc.
I don't think you guys understand these are 2 TOTALLY different cars to drive.

Robbie, I see where you are going here, and yes they are 2 very different cars. The GT-R is good cruising car, but really is designed for speed in cornering, not just straight line acceleration.
But to continue with the comparrison, I think it would be much fairer to compare a Highly moded Z with a mildly modded GT-R performance wise. If you take the GT-R and add the cat delete, mid pipes, and Stage 2 tune; I think you might have a closer show, but really when you put the total costs into it, not sure what is a better 'value'.
Hey, if you want to to pick up the Z, you could do some runs between the Z <=> GT-R, should be interesting.? Still don't know what it would prove though..
