This has been discussed before, we all know the way around the OBDII port is to be "low" so you cannot get over the rollers and thus you are exempt 2 years. Ive done this twice in the past with 2 cars.

Brief history: My car was due in October 2007. I called in 3 extensions for car not running. My last extension date was September 9, 09, I didnt go (cracked bumper) and now by October 9, 09 - next Friday if I dont go they suspend my newly renewd tags.

I called twice, and upon a suggestion from a nice lady to pursuade a manager to override the system (dont know if its truly possible) for another extension or exemption, I went down to the Glen Dirty station.

The manager whored me. Said my car being a "track" car (lol my excuses and I even told em I had less than 1000 miles in 3yrs on the street) doesnt matter, no more extensions, period. This also comes with a $15 charge every 28 days after due date!.

I then told the guy how is it they can offer senior citizens waivers for less than 5000 miles/year and for a circumstance like mine (track car/blown motor/never sees public roads) they wont? He wasnt having it, he looked like he had just $hit in his depends and in turn he wanted to $hit on me, and he did.

I tried everything. I even told him his station likely couldnt test my car anyway because the car wont go over the rollers. I was shocked as this old man knew my intentions and chuckled as his snaggle tooth almost fell out and he said "look behind me" NO MORE ROLLERS, the OBDII stations are now flat!!!

So, I have 2 options, both suck.

1. Take car to station, have it fail, get another extension. Then get a "shop" receipt with $450+ worth of emissions work and get exempt for still failing again.

2. Register this b!tch and change my address to Worcester County (OCEAN CITY, MD) where all vehicles are exempt there.

Forced induction with CEL on, or NA w/test pipes, FAWK US ALL!!!!

oh BTW you don't have to be residence of a certain county to go to emission station located in that county right? My car's registered in Baltimore County still but I definitely went to one in Montgomery County last time.

I even tried calling the people back complaining about the manager hoping they would exempt me the lady couldnt do anything. She was cool enough to give me the info on Worecester County to avoid this though....

 

How do they test the cars that don't have computer that still needs the roller?!

 

Damn......my previous car I got extensions for 3 years before getting rid of it. They never caught on. Did you do the extensions via the website?

Nope, OBD II only basically checks for CEL's, and will gather other emissions related info from your ECU. No rollers ie. tail pipe sniffer after 1996.

 

How about bring another stock blue Z in and do a few things to change the VIN number? Do they actually check the VIN number on the vehicle?

 

What are the codes? I cleared them using an OBD scanner, and kept checking the readiness and went as soon as I passed prior to an alarm coming up. All the sensors DONT have to be ready. I think you're allowed to pass with 2 sensors not ready.

 

Most places will check the vin and match it to the one on the ECU.

 

Haltech cannot clear CEL's, but I do have scanner I can try to use, BUT if the engine hasnt been cycled - turned on/off numerous times it will actually tell them the power was recently cut to ECU/erased/replaced battery etc.

My dad had a CEL on his DD the DEALER put there, long story short I erased it, had him drive 20 miles and turn it on/off and they caught on, they asked if he had the battery replaced he said yes-they asked him to come back.

We then erased it again, and noted an avg of how many miles it took for the CEL to come back on. I had him go again right before that number, and the car had been cycled enough to not throw up a flag AND not yet throw the CEL and it passed.

Perhaps that is my only option, BUT IIRC my cam position code is almost immediate due to Haltech. IM SOL

Are there any exemption rules? Alberto you've mentioned if you drive less than a certain number of miles the car can be considered as a track car and it doesn't need to pass emission? How does that work?

Idea!!! First 24 months after titling and registration... You can give your parents/kids a car as a gift and get away from paying tax but just pay for registration fee. So that means you can just switch the title between you and your dad? $1XX for the registration fee and you're off the hook for another year Alberto

 

Register it man, much easier, my car is registered in Kent County, no emissions FTW...

 

Does your license also need to be in Kent County?

 

Now that's the kind of forward thinking that's going to get us out of this recession!
