So I have a guy that is interested in buying my friends civic. But something about this doesn't sound safe. This guy found my ad on craigslist. I emailed him my phone # and asked if he can call me, but just emailed me back asking for my address. I asked him where he lives in the reply email, but didn't answer that.

Can anything go wrong if he sends me the bank check and i send him the car..? just worried about scams.


This is the email.
"Sounds Good,
I will like to proceed with the transaction asap and my mode of payment will be via bank check drawn on my bank (Bank Of America) as there are too many scams online with bogus paypal payment and money orders,the car will be picked up from you by my shipper so you don't have to worry about shipment of the car also the check will be sent with the fund to cover cost of car and also shipment by my shipping company due to company policy the amount i placed with my company can only be written on a single check so that is why i want you to receive the check and send the excess fund to my shippers that will arrange the pickup when the check clears at your bank,once your bank verify and cash the check you will deduct your fund and send the excess fund to the shipping company so they will proceed with the pickup because i also have a truck to be picked up,i should have handled this myself but i am not available to do this now i am currently away for my company se minar that is why i want to do this to facilitate the transaction so proceed to delete the advert of this item if my mode of payment is accepted and get back to me asap with your full name,physical address and phone # to send the check to you. "

 

DO NOT DO IT!!! if it feels like a scam its because it is a scam. This is the way it works. they tell you they will send a check. then they tell you they will either have a partner pick it up. you get the check by the time your bank realizes its no good guess what? your screwed. I crack up every time i here that they are unable to come to you but they will send someone else because they are unavailable.....thats BULLSH!T. I get these E-mails all the time when i sell stuff on craigslist.

how much are they selling the civic for?

 

If it feels wrong then don't do it.

I post Craigslist advertisements pretty frequently almost always deal with scam deals. It easy to filter through them now.

Just a piece of advice - be careful who you trust on Craigslist.

This is 100% a scam. Do not under any condition do business with this "person".
The terminology that is being used has been repeated thousands and possibly millions of times.

 

 

dont do it, this happened to a buddy of mine. good thing he took the check to the bank to verify before he shipped the car out, and the check was bogus

 

If you copy and pasted that message then its a no brainer. Anyone that can afford a shipping company to pick up a car would not have such poor grammar and spelling, especially on an important document IMO.

Checks FTL. You could find out a month later the check is no good (after it clears). It happens...
