Default Used VLSD

Hey guys, I have an '03 base which, to my understanding = Open rear Diff. I am gonna upgrade to a Quaife LSD when I have the $1.4k, but I've got other more pressing mods to do first (like a ProCharger ). This got me thinking, do any of you know a good, trusted junker in the B-more/DC area that won't try to rob me, where I can just buy a used VLSD off of a junked, not-base, Z and just use that until I get the Quaife unit? Also, would this even be a good idea? because I know our trannies are notorious for acting up, does that apply to the rest of the drivetrain as well?... Anywho, thanx in advanced!

199 for used auto vlsd -

i got my from here off ebay 239 SHIPPED (weighs like 75#) - a huge difference from the old one wheeled wonder burnout - might be slightly slower due to lower gearing but more than makes up for it in having both tires hook up ( price is a bargain also!)

One wheeled wonder burn-outs FTL!... and straight up Barnabas! One of (if not the) best color for the Z (I drove 2 hours to pick mine up in LMSS, and they were selling 3 other Zs right here on base lol)

Quaife LSD should be a priority. Suspension and drivetrain are the most important things to set up first before anything else. Lots of power is useless if you can't get it to the ground.

Also, it's been said by previous procharger owners that approximately 1 - 2 years after installing the kit that they realize that they are lacking in power and end up crossing over to some kind of turbo kit wishing that they had started with turbos in the beginning.

The Quaife LSD was my very first mod. Made a big difference.

Thanx for the advice! LSD it is . What do you guys think of Kaaz?... As for the ProCharger, not that I don't want to listen to advice, I'll admit u guys know more than me, and therefor ur input is greatly appreciated. I was just thinking S/C over turbo for ease of install/maintenance and better reliability, as this is my DD, and I've seen many of my friends have problems w/ turbo DDs (granted, none of them were VQs)... would upgrading the internals a bit and switching over to a higher PSI pulley be an option? or would that just throw that reliability I'm looking for out the window anyways?

S/C is good for a DD, upgrading the internals and switching to a higher pulley will probably put you around $15k if you are doing everything at once though. It would be reliable but you would have spent $15k to be putting down around 400 hp / 350 tq or so while other people who spend $15-20k on turbo setups are pushing 600 hp easy.

Ask Jeffie7 about the powerlab kit. He has been running that for quite some time with good power levels and good reliability.

Quaife LSD > ALL mods in the universe, except maybe an oil cooler.

Kaaz, Nismo, Cusco - aka "clutch type LSDs" have this awesome chatter!... if you like chatter that is (I personally don't) otherwise go with the gear-driven Quaife! (unless you're a drifter, then you actually want a clutch type LSD)

Stock VLSD isn't that great and you'll be better off saving that money for a real LSD. I drove on the stocker for a week and had to immediately get a Quaife - night vs day difference, especially since it enables you to power out of the apex a lot sooner. (if you're into that stuff that is) And if you're not, you still want an LSD anyways for better launches, and bragging rights.

P.S. don't get a Procharger. They're obnoxiously loud, unless you like that kind of stuff. If I were you, I would opt for a APS Twin Turbo and get a conservative tune. However if you want a 100% sure-shot "reliability," then get a HKS or a Stillen supercharger. It won't grant you much power, but hey, it's at least 60whp over stock with great low end pickup.
