23k for a newz? You must own the dealership because that is under invoice.

The whole price comparison thing was just about the quality of interiors, not about anything else. The point was made that a Z has a nicer interior, which is true. A mustang has the same interior no matter if you get the $17k (msrp) V-6 or the $35k Cobra. A Z has the same interior if you get the $27k base version or the $35k one with all the options. That was the only comparision being made.

If I am not mistaken he was saying he paid 23k for his Z28. Anyway I got that beat, my 1SC stripper cost me 21.5k and 0% to boot.

Lightbulb Sorry, Gentlemen!

As a wise racer once said, there is no replacement for DISplacement. The simple fact reamains that there is nothing you can do to your little ricer that I can't do to my Bullitt and make it faster. In addition, I will have spent thousands less. I am riding around town in a peice of American history, and while your new 350Z is depreciating with every unit sold. My car is 1 in 5680....and yours is 1 in....... Don't underestimate this car, remember, it's faster than yours in 0-60 (stock vs. stock) I will capitulate to GM , they have built a strong motor, and like I said, it has more displacement. Torque is another consideration- that is what makes or breaks your 0-60, and the Mustang wins there too. Let's not forget that you lose torque the higher the RPM goes, so your "quickness" in my opinion is inflated..The 350Z is the one that will peter out at your peak HP behind the Bullitt because it has more torque. Dyno a couple of your cars and see what type of numbers you get- and I'd like to see them posted so we can keep it honest. Another thing- you think you're getting a finely put together Japaneese car? Think again. You're basically getting a Peugeot. Nissan is owned by them, a french company. Take a look at the 10 year old peugeot's running around the roads today. They look and run (if at all) like CRAP. We all remember the Renault, don't we? Can you recall ever seeing a 15 year old renault still on the street? And yes, they were sold in America. If you look around, you can still see plenty of strong running Mustangs and Camaros on the roads, including my old 66 Mustang. The 350Z is not the 300Z of old. It's a Peugeot. And, I will pit the Bullitt Mustang stock for stock against the 350Z any day of the week. The only reason that 350Z beat the Bullitt was because of driver error on the part of the Mustang owner. Back to the displacement thing- I can add a simple 2k mod, or even a set of 400$ 3:55 gears to my car and spank your 350z all day long. Can a SS Camaro beat me with the same type of mod? YES. Simple math.

Now, that being said, I must also admit to you that I do actually like the 350Z, I think it looks like a great car. But you really have no room to slam the Mustangs, and I am Honor bound to defend them. If you've ever sat in a bullitt as compared to the regular GT, you will be suprised at the difference in comfort. There is a bit much plastic in the car, but the creature comfort element was not a major consideration for me, since I don't care much for the bells and whistles and all that "foo foo" stuff. Another thing about the Bullitt- it has some pretty serious suspension mods and handles like it's on rails, yep, no more loose rear ends here.

You have a nice car
I have a nice car

Why can't we all just get along?

When rating the quality of a car you must also look at reliability. I have a friend with a Bullit that has serious engine problems already. He has already had his head replaced on it. Keep in mind that he is a moron and beats the sh*t out of it. But still I've have heard nothing but nightmare stories about mustangs. Even thought my buddy has a 1998 cobra that handed me the beating of my life.

I had a 1990 300ZX that I had nothing but trouble with. It wasn't even a turbo. The automatic transmission went out three times! I had other problems with alternators, brakes, etc. I finally got rid of it because I needed more reliable transportation to get back and forth to work. That is when I bought a Maxima. Now that was a great car, just too slow. I traded it in on my first Mustang, which was a regular GT. Now I have the Bullitt, and I love it. Of course, there isn't really much of it left that hasn't been upgraded, at least as far as the drivetrain goes.

I happen to own a 350Z and love it. My friend has a Cobra and he loves his car - I happen to like it quite a lot too.

IMO both cars deserve respect. What impresses me most is not necessarily what one car does verses another, but rather what one driver does to his/car to improve upon it's baseline performance/appearance.

It's about all of these cars, not just one

Now having said that, in comparison to most of the folks here, I know virtually nothing about mods and the do-it-yourself things people do to their cars. My total experience: a recent purchase of 4 TE-37s and some Toyos for my Z.

By the way the fastest 1/4 mile I have ever seen run was performed by a truck: at the last airshow I attended, some guy in a jet-powered truck did a top speed of 318MPH on a runway. LOL - that was impressive - some obvious mods tho

Talking

Well, you guys have succesfully bashed my Bullitt Ego!!!!

Anyways, I want to start by saying the 350Z is the nicest Japanese import I have seen in a while (Next to the 94-98 Twin Turbo Supra). Us Amercian Muscle Maniacs tend to dislike imports, calling them all ricers whether they are stock or not. I have partaken in this immmature bashing of a whole group of cars for a while. Yes I think the spoiler/wing size being put on these cars is a bit out of hand, the fart cannons and decals are very annoying, but one cannot deny respect to a car that is clearly a winner.

I have read about the Nissan 350Z in several mags. I read a post over on IMBOC.com (Bullitt site) from a gent who witnessed a guy test the 350Z at a track before the car was available to the public (could have been from a dealer or one of the mags that provide us with the inaccurate 1/4 mile times we have grown to despise) Either way, this guy threw down a series of mid-high 15 sec. 1/4 miles and a 6.?? second 0-60mph. Now, he was obviously a novice because I know the 350Z can do better than that. I have seen a few on the road, unfortunately none wanted to play so I cannot give a hands on fact based opinion.

With that said, in my humble opinion, the driver of the Black Bullitt either probably had bad start as well, or was not interested in racing-maybe even an old woman (just kidding). With equal drivers, IMO the Bullitt would win. If you got the hole shot, he would catch you at the end of 3rd gear at the latest. I will tell you the Bullitt is a sleaper, rated at 260HP by ford, Dyno'd by several owners upwards of 280hp at the wheels. The widened tourque curve helps put the power to the wheels more efficiently than a stock GT. My best kill so far was actually yesterday. A 2002 Audi A4 at a constant 12lbs boost (not stock), intake and per the owner "Porsche Exhaust", dyno tuned chip, yada yada yada. I only took him by .5 car lengths in a 1/4 mile race(give or take a few meters) in about 30 degree weather on a nasty bumpy road running 12k mile gatorback tires stock from Ford (my BUllitt is bone stock) It could have been driver skill, but I myself am not an expert so whos to say.

You guys have one hell of a ride, easy and fairly cheap to mod, so enjoy it. Bye the way, Nice Kill on the Bullitt either way, be proud!

Now I own a 2001 GT 5spd so I know what the GT's and Bullitt's can do. 280 at the wheels???? I think you meant at the crank, at least I hope that is what you meant since 280 at the wheels isn't happening.

He meant the horsepower was measured at the wheels, and based on that measurement the car was making 280hp rather than 260hp. Most Bullitts were dynoing around 230rwhp to 245rwhp stock on dynojets.

2001Stang,

I dont believe my numbers were wrong, but the description was unclear. I am not expert and the numbers can confuse me, but here it goes. If I understand correctly, the horsepower is measured on a dyno, then a 15% loss in drivetrain or flywheel is applied which gives you the bhp made at the wheels. So at 245 dyno jet hp, 15% drivetrain loss applied, then the bhp at the wheels is about 280 give or take. I dont know the formula but do know that Ford underrated the cars. Whether or not my exact figures are correct, that doesnt matter, the point is the car is underrated and dont sleap on it.

Dont get scared by my fellow Bullittheads, they mean well.

Peace not war, I only posted here to show my love for my car and my appreciation for the Nissan 350Z. As for a 2001 GT, you are lucky you are a Mustang owner... Just kidding

No it doesn't make me an expert, however if you read the post it is very misleading. Plus I don't have to be expert at all to know a Bullitt doesn't make 280 HP at the wheels. Since I have dynoed my car stock I know what 2V 4.6 motors make stock. Bullitt is a cool car but it doesn't make that much more HP then a GT on the Dyno.

P.S. is there anything you would like me to tell you about your car???? More then likely I can tell you. I love American muscle cars and I can tell you alot about all of them. Here are a few I have owned just so you know.

70 455 Pontiac GTO
82 Z28 (P.O.S)
93 LX 5.0 Coupe
97 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (not really a muscle car but still American)
96 Corvette LT4 C.E. (Once again not a muscle car but still fast)
2000 Trans Am WS6
2001 Mustang GT

Don't jump all over me... I was right by pointing out 280RWHP is not correct, I understand it was a typo but just clearing it up.
