Mustang GT's from 99-03 all have the same power. 99-03 GT mustangs have the T45 and stock 3.27 gearing have a bad 4th gear for highway runs. The 4th gear on the mustang 99-03 GT and 99 Cobra end at 150mph(very long gear, makes accleration slow with only 220-235rwhp stock). I used to have a 99 Cobra with the same trans that the GT have and i used to shift to 5th at 150mph. Even the Cobra with the almost 50rwhp difference wasnt that fast after shifting to 4th. I used to jump on some LS1's(beating the Driver not the car) from a stop till 3rd gear and after i shift to 4th any LS1 will start gaining on the 99 Cobra. At last Ford noticed this problem and they did put 3.55 gears in the new MACH 1 with stronger tranny than the T45 and shorter gears too. The new MACH 1 has a nice top as well as a nice launch now. Anyways if u want to race a (stock)mustang GT or a bullitt with the Z try a highway roll at 3rd gear(65mph) and u will always win. Sorry for the long replay and good luck
Actually, when ford switched the mustang to the romeo block in 2001, and raised the CR to 9.4:1. They seem to put out a little more HP even though they are rated at 260HP. A 2001+ mustangs also have the TR3650 tranny with taller 1st gear.

The Mach 1 is pretty much a 1999, 2001 cobra w/ solid axel.

Mustangs GT's don't have the best top end because they are ment for races from a stop. That's what you get from a 2V motor with flat HP/TQ curves. Their strength is aftermarket parts. It's very hard to keep one stock.

From what my friends with GT mustangs tell me, the way they are geared stock makes them poor highway cars.

Any Mustang Guru's want to confirm this?

well, mind you, we didnt do like a 60mph roll... I didnt start in my power band either. it was like a 10mph roll, or however fast he pulled the 90degree turn. hardly highway speeds. beyond that, I was pulling hard and already gained a car length or 2 by 100mph which is about where a drag race(Im assuming this is what they are good at?) ends.

so I dont see how the gearing excuse could play in that much. granted, maybe I shouldnt have gotten that huge distance at the end(because... ummm they dont have proper gearing, maybe later someone can explain why that is a reason and not an excuse) but I still gained 2 cars from 10-100. I guess they have a really good launch.

EDIT: They CAN have a really good launch because of the solid rear axle. But MOST mustang GT drivers that I've seen (about 95%) can't pull any better than a 2.3xx 60ft that nets them mid 14s in the 1/4.

I'll race you. Along with my Z, I've got a 91 street stang that puts 521 to the wheels. There's always someone faster....

I have found a graph of the 350z vs Mustang GT. (NOTE: I have stole this pic from stang.net)

from that graph, mustangs should shift at about 5000RPMs, you dont have top end power. which is kinda expected from a V8. looks like youd get where your going faster, but youd lose the gearing. also 250 less lbs and 600 extra RPMs is alot of help.

but regaurdless I know who was in front, but the guy mighta had an auto. hell he mighta hat a GT badge with GT rims on a V6, but I kinda doubt that.

Damn they suck at launching...... I cut a 2.3xx(Have to go down to the car for the slip if you want exact numbers) 60 ft' in my RSX Type S.... and that launch absolutely sucked ***. I'm confident on stock tires I can cut a 2.2xx, and with a bit of a miracle a 2.1xx on stockers. that 2.3 60' was with stock tires, only "performance" modifications I guess you could call them that... not much performance from them, but ugh... AEM CAI, Neuspeed Sport Springs, and a Revo Short Shifter. I think it was that run that I cut a 15.12 at 90 mph. Either that or a 2.4xx 60 ft'.... track prep blew, anyone on street tires was spinning their *** off, but I still could have improved my techniques.

Have seen a fully stock 2k1 GT run a 13.95 , though. *shrug* Nothing out of the ordinary from what I understand, as the best fully stock time done was a 13.7 or 13.8? For a Drag race, from a stop, good competition for the Z, from a roll, stock for stock the Z should have no problem.

Negative, between 5800-6000rpms. You should always shift just about 800rpms past where you make peak hp, to stay within the power band.

BTW nice kill, even though i didn't see it as a race. Just wreckless driving

yeah your right, it was wreckless driving. I have never gone that fast before. but I was going and just sorta planned on "passing" him spiritedly. but when it was apparent he wasnt cruising along, well... testosterone got the better of me.

anyway, Ill be going to the real track tomarrow, for some proper kills(or since Im going with crazybosnonian and his 340hp M6; some proper losses)

hopefully there will be a mustang there too, win or lose, I prefer to have a fair truth.
