Just curious what your thoughts are. Let's say for instance it put down numbers like BriGuyZ's Touring model did, 243whp and 245wtq, and it had drag slicks and one helluva driver.

Where at? Milan apparantly did a lot of work over the winter, but it'll still be very crowded from what I hear. I may head down there with a local Camaro club that rents the track for the night so I can get a good number of passes in.

Caswell I didn't notice you are in michigan. I hope milan did work because I dont like that track. I don't know what it is, I've always run decent times there but very slow traps, and the facilities suck there imho. I run at US131 motorsports park in Martin, RT66 in Joliet, IL and Byron in Byron IL most often. Milan like 2x a year, stanton once or twice, thunderbird NEVER (god what a horrid track), US41 (indiana) in the winter once usually.

Cool... I've always heard that US131 was one of the best strips around. Sad thing is that living around the Motor City there's not many good tracks that are within a reasonable driving distance. If I'm going to make any kind of haul to race, it'll be for a track day at Gingerman.

Milan did a lot of work to their facilites and track, but it doesn't change the overcrowding and crappy staff. I'll probably give it a shot anyway.

You should come out to gingerman May 25th. BriGuyZ and myself will be out there. Gingerman is 35 mins from my apartment. US131 is 15.

You guys think that tires are worth a second???

Truth is, at that power level wrinkle wall slicks may slow the car down, seriously.

BFG drag radials would go faster than slicks with at 250 whp due the less rolling resistance from the radial design.

I was thinking about it, but it really is a haul from Metro Detroit. Who knows though, maybe I'll change my mind.

Well, I'm not a great driver, but did cut a couple of 56x reaction times. I turned a 14.102 @99+ @1800 altitude. That converts to 13.815 (NHRA formula). A 6MT could not get out of the 14.6xx all day long on the same day. Now, here's the kicker, this is in my 5AT Touring that dyno'd a miserable 218hp & 216 torque on a Dynojet two months ago @ 11k miles.
These numbers were all done on stock 17's. I now have 18's w/275/40's on the back and tons of grip. I will be running these this coming Saturday for the first time. Regards, Jim

Real slicks didn't slow me down any... I ran .4 seconds faster with them, with a measly 180hp to the wheels. From 13.8 down to low 13s isn't a full second, it's a half second (assuming 13.3 = low 13's).

Well, I suppose there could be a certain luck factor there, but after reading your post, I averaged out 23 runs over 3 daytime sessions and one night time session this year and the average is .601. That is skewed a bit as there are a couple of 7's and one 8 , but I mainly cut the lights in the high 5's and low 6's. Not too much "blind luck" in those 27 runs. Of course when one tries to cut them a little closer he also gets a .421 too!
In the end I hope you don't think RT has anything to do with ET, do you? It doesn't, I just mentioned it to reassure the original poster that I wasn't a complete noooobie at this 1/4 business Regards, Jim

AS far as how fast will a Z run on slicks....all u Dragstrip Regulars should know that it all depends on the MPH of the car.
If a Z car can hit 101 mph it could hit 13.4's...if it mph's are around 103...it could hit 13.1's...maybe even a 13.0..........with the weight of the car, it would need to be able to run around 104mph on street tires to hit 12's on slicks....hookin a 1.9 or better 60 ft...

Its all about the driver.

Of course not...I was going to ask you the same thing but I gave you the benefit of the doubt If funny how many times you see people say that they would've done better if their RT was better

Personally, if I'm running for ET, I don't worry about the lights. I go when I've got the rpm's where I want them...

Hank, Yes, you're right about going when you are ready if running for ET only, but..... I am too competitive to let the other guy think he would've won if I hadn't red lighted even when just running time n' tune, so I always work on my RT for those trophy times when I need it for heads up running. Regards, Jim
Edit: Sorry bout' that looong run on sentence!
