1/4 Mile racing question about spare tire
Hey I have quick question. Im going to the track on Saturday and I was wondering will it make that much of a difference if i take the spare tire out versus leaving it in???

Last time I was at the track with my old 95GT....anything less then 1/4 tank of gas, and I had issues hooking up...I was running street tires also.
Half a tank seemed to be about right...by the time I got done running I was down to about 1/4 tank....before traction be came a real issue.
You may be better off putting higher octane gas from the track if they are available. That will give you more hp and I think you will benifit more from that than removing tires.. But if you do both, then you are in the 13's with proper traction!!
That is a good question about removing the spare tire for when you go to the track. As already mentioned, it is good to have as much weight reduction as possible, but at the same time, you don't want to run into traction problems.
I am going to the track on March 30th. I am going to try it both ways. I'll have about 1/4 of gas and I'll try a run with and without the spare and jack and see if the benefit of less weight outweighs the risk of poor traction (no pun intended)

Why do people think race gas is going to help a car designed for pump gas?? It makes no sense.

....but then again....it's not really necessary to run THAT much timing just being a pain, sorry

Sport Compact Car Mag got around 3 more HP when they dyno'd the car with 100 octane gas over the 92 premium they were running. So, inconclusion, our Z's MAY run better with race gas. I'm not saying to go out and put 110 in it, but once in while 100 may not hurt....
