Tweaked the Ecu & Killed a 2002 Mustang GT Manual
Last Saturday night, I am at a local meet and this guy comes up to me and asks me if he wants to race. He mentioned that he just raced a 350z the night before and it was dead even. So I say sure.
The first run was from a 10 MPH roll to 100 MPH. I absolutely kill him by 5 car lengths.
The second run was from a stop. Beat him again, but not as bad -- by about 4 car lengths.
I wish I had a picture of his face after we pulled over. "WHAT IN THE WORLD DID YOU DO TO YOUR CAR!!!". Before we raced, he never thought to ask if I was modded. If he asked, I would have told him that I have Stillen Exhaust, Injen CAI and tweaked ECU
I really want to find a Mustang Bullitt to race now
I will be taking my car to the track on March 30 (provided there isn't any snow). I am hoping to run somewhere between a 14.4 - 14.6. At 6,000 feet elevation, that is not bad for a 350Z. The general rule of thumb is add .15 seconds for every 1,000 feet to your quarter mile time from the base sea level times.

Well, I am lucky. An acquaintance of mine has the "Consult" device which is the device used to program the ECU. He plugged it in and made the adjustments.
Here is a printout of the settings:
Corrected IGN TIM: 5 degrees
ENG SPEED: 838 RPM
Corrected IDL RPM: 175 RPM
COOLAN TEMP/S: 192 Degrees farenheit
CLSD THL POS: ON
IGN TIMING: 17BTDC
The results is better low end due to the more lean air/fuel mixture and a lot better top end due to the advanced timing.

The 350Z's VQ is WAY rich from the factory, you should have smelled my exhaust after my dyno pulls 2 weeks ago. I don't think leaning out the A/F mixture with a consult device would lean the mixture enough to possibly destory the motor.

So, the question is, you sure it was a Mustang GT and if so, was it a late model?

I'm not saying it's BS cause frankly I don't know. But, the Mustang GTs I've seen are pretty quick and I have a hard time seeing myself taking one by that much distance. If you did it's all good but it just seems like a lot.

well if you mean just a regular GT, not a bullit or cobra, than this is about right on. Road and Track lists the 260hp GT as pulling a 14.7 sec 1/4mi. Figuring the drag rule of thumb that every tenth is a car legnth, a Z running 14.2 should be 5 legnths no sweat.

Yea I think 4-5 cars is A LOT; especially if you both were starting out at 10mph roll. For you to put that much distance on a new GT Mustang would take a lot more power than what you are putting down now, I guarantee that!
I know Mustang GT's stock are dogs but they are not that slow.
I put about 4-5 cars on a slightly modded GT from a dead stop and I can put about a little over 2 1/2 cars on a 350Z. That is from a stop, from a roll, give and take a car or so.

Good kill, but street racing don't mean jack. When and if you make it out to the track, make sure you let us in on your times.
