Default So Ive heard the base model is the faster quarter mile 350z but...

wouldnt the enthusiast model be even faster because of the addition of the LSD? and what exactly? is the VCD or whatever that the track and touring models get?

they all have the same power output, they all have about the same weight (nothing to make a significant difference). therefore they are all the same. it's the driver that makes the difference. the LSD would most be used in cornering, it will be used some in straightline. give it time and you will see. if you wanted a straight line speed car you probably need to find something else.

ive looked at like 16 different cars, and gone too all the different forums. everyone and their mom says that "if you want a straight line speed car then the (insert car name here) isn't for you. I love the Z. Its gorgeous. If it can do 13s comfortably, I'll be happy. Especially since ive heard alot of good things about its top end.

I would say that all the Z's should be the same in terms of straight line speed. Their weight difference could be made up by a heavier driver, more gas in the tank, or any other number of factors. The LSD will help you out, but the one on the Z isnt the most effective unit. If you plan to drag race a lot I would probably go with one of the aftermarket clutch type LSDs, they would put down the power a lot more effectively. I don't really know if you could say the Z is "comfortably in the 13's" though. If you can launch it well, you will most likely be in the high 13's, but the Z is fairly tricky to launch, especially if you aren't used to a RWD car w/ and independent rear suspension.

well, i didnt mean comfortable in the 13s stock. although ive heard some people claiming mid 13s. but im a big modder, and i plan to pursure greddys twin turbo kit, provided something better doesnt come along. and as for launching, i dont think Ill have a problem learning. But another question...would it be better to get the bass model and add after market HID housing and balasts and a better, more drag-oriented LSD? or would it be wiser to get the enthusiest model and not have to worry about those two items.

i purchased my hid kit from misterjung.com. i got the 7000k kit. you could also try xenondepot.com. installation isn't too bad. you just need to partially remove the plastic fender protector to get to the bulbs. btw, the bulbs for the base is h7 if you didn't know already.

Fairly easy install. Try HELLA or McCulloch. You can get a set for as low as $415 (http://www.projectimport.com)

So I've heard the Base model is the quarter mile 350Z
...I think most people are getting the impression that the Base model is the fastest because most of the 1/4 mile times shown have been from Base models. I have a Base, and I am positive that an Enthusiast model is capable of a better time because of the LSD, which although not "drag" oriented, will definately reduce the massive ammounts of un-wanted wheel spin generated from an open-diff in the Base model. Also, the Enthusiast only weighs like 40-50 pounds more I believe. Speaking from personal experience (even at 5300') I get way too much wheel spin from 1st to 2nd on a fast shift. But the biggest problem is on launch where you really have to feather the clutch to avoid messing up the launch on wheelspin. Even the factory LSD will definately allow for more aggressive launches and will allow you to do a fast 1st to 2nd shift with much less wheelspin. My prediction for fastest Z (assuming equally good drivers) would be between the Enthusiast and the Track. Enthusiast because it is basically as light as the Base but with an LSD. Track because although a little heavier, it has much lighter wheels -- however the wheels have a bigger rotational factor (18'' vs 17'') and the Brembo's are a little heavier.

For the base model is better to do that two mod. if you get the enthusiest you better get another drag-oriented LSD, because you want to put the Greddy TT. The base model is the same of all others models, if you plan to install simple bolts on, but if you want to mod. big time, no matter wich model you buy is better you chance the LSD.

P.S. you can buy a base model, do a lot of practice and learn how to live without it.
