I will be there , I just happen to be out there for a training class for two weeks for my job. I'm staying in Twinsburg. I don't know how far that is from the track , but hopefully I can meet some of you there. I've never been to the track. What days will you be there and will the spectators be able to walk around the pits? I'm fling out there and I won't have my Z.

It'll take you about an hour and a half to get from Twinsburg to the track. Just come down I-71.

WARNING! Do NOT get off at the first exit that says "Mid Ohio Race Track," at Rte 30, I think. It'll take you through Mansfield, and add at least 20 minutes to your trip with traffic lights, etc.

Keep going another 10 miles and get off at Rte 97. Go north until you get into Lexington and follow the signs.

I'll be there all three days, and I think dwnshft will be, too. SunsetZ and Hedonist will be there Saturday and Sunday, IIRC. Spectators are welcome, no charge, you just have to sign a waiver when you enter the track. You probably won't be allowed in the hot pits during a race, but you'll have the run of the paddock, of course. And food concessions will be open.

They're saying it may rain on Saturday, but that it will be better Friday and Sunday. Of course it's a little far off to be very accurate on those predictions.

See you there.

Add me to the guest list! Actually, the drivers list -- I'm signed up for Friday and Saturday. Can't wait!

Anyone have an extra helmet? I'm in the medium range, about 7-1/4.

I have two Shoei motorcycle helmets: an XXL Snell M95 and a Medium Snell M90. I might be able to bring one, but I'm not sure if all the crap I'm already planning to take (see list above) is going to fit. I also don't recall if NASA accepts M90 helmets.

If you think you could use one of them, let me know, and I'll try to squeeze it in.

James -- they say the minimum is Snell M85. I know nothing about Snell ratings. Does M90 meet this requirement? If so, then, yes, it would be great if you can squeeze in the Medium M90.

If you can't, don't worry. I arranged to borrow one from Lawrence Mansier, but I figure he's so busy it might be easier if someone else has a spare.

Thanks! See you Friday.

Yes, the Snell M90 is one up from the M85. Snell comes up with a new standard every five years. The latest is 2000.

If I can fit it in I will. See you there.

Are you refering to the drop links for the sway bars. I cannot say if they will or will not work with other sway bars.
They will be available soon along with our bars. We are working on a "complete" package for the Z...................

Do we really need to remove our floor mats and spare tire as the NASA sheet says?

Floor mats, yes. Spare tire (and tool kit), since they're bolted down, I don't think so, at least not for safety reasons.

I suppose we could debate whether the reduction in weight from removing them would be more beneficial than the front-rear balance issue. The two track sessions I've run, I've kept them in. But I suppose we could test it over the weekend.

In any case, you don't have to leave any of that stuff at home, if that's your concern. You can leave it in the paddock while you're running. Perfectly safe.

I've just checked the weather forecast, and it's not looking great: showers Friday and Sunday. Clear on Saturday. I hope that turns around.

Be Zing you!

Yeah, the Liar Channel can't make up it's mind with the weather forecast for the weekend, so I'm preparing for all types of weather.

I've actually run with my floormats in, but I've always taken out the spare tire, jack, etc. After all, it is ~45lbs. of dead weight.

I was always under the impression that you had to have a Snell 95 or newer, but I could be wrong. M helmets are pretty much discouraged, so if you'd like, you might be able to rent one at the track.

Anyone want to wash my car for me?

Interesting. NASA's site says Snell M85 is the minimum. (http://www.nasaproracing.com/hpde/preparing.html under Safety Equipment)

Do they rent out helmets at the track? I was told they don't, at least NASA doesn't -- maybe Mid Ohio does???

BTW, what does the M mean?

M is for motorcycle. SA (Special Application) is for cars.

I believe M helmets are not expected to take as many hits in an incident, and also offer better protection against a sharp object puncture, which is less likely in a car. But I could be wrong about that. You could search here or go to the Snell Web site.

Between me and Mansier, you'll be okay.

Got it. Have a great drive from Columbia. I've done it from N. VA to Cinci several times in the Z -- not a bad way to go!

Out of curiousity, why do you frequent NoVA?

I grew up in Manassas, and my folks still live there. I moved to Cinci from Falls Church in June last year. I don't know MD very well, but I remember it was real pain commuting from Alexandria to Columbia a handful of times!

Default Brakes

Is anyone going who doesn't have a Track w/Brembos? I have a Touring. Should I be very concerned about brake fade?

A couple of you guys said you are/going to use ATE Super Blue. Should I change my brake fluid? If so, should I do it before I leave home Thurs. night, at the track Fri morning, or maybe see how it goes on Fri and then possibly change it before sessions on Saturday?

So many questions.

I grew up in Fairfax, my parents still live there, and I just moved from a place near Falls Church (it was in N. Arlington at the top of Sycamore St.) into DC. Anyways, I digress...

As for your brake fluid, see how the car holds up on Friday. At that point we could always bleed your brakes. It wouldn't hurt to go pick up a few liters of the ATE though, as you'll always find a chance to use them down the road...

Actually the SA helmets have some fireproofing to them that motorcycle helmets don't have. I did a little research before buying my SA2000 approved helmet.

I also have a touring, hope my brakes are able to take the workout on the track.
