B Stock, then What?
Anyone know where we end up if we do a few mods to the Track Models in SCCA?
I know a 99 Cobra goes from FS to ESP, or CP if you do subframes. Can also run Street Mod. But where do you go from BS?
So far I did an airintake, and am thinking of bigger rims and rubber, maybe and exhaust system and some sway bars.
Car is kickin butt so far, humiiated 2 Porches the other day.

It goes to ASP. While it isn't listed in the link below, it is listed there in the 2003 rules. You can use the link to see where other cars go (S2000 follows same path to ASP, as does Z06 Vette). Not friendly territory.....

From there it can go to SM2 (not legal in STS,STX or SM) or prepared, which allows buckets of mods to engine and chassis. Either BP or AP (AP for sure if you run boost).

Was chatting with a few others about what would be neat to have happen in SP. In the PRO series, they've already effectively combined ASP (Elan, C5/Z06's) and BSP (C4 Vettes) into a single class. These classes always run very similar times.
If that were done on the SCCA side of things, there'd be room for a BSP class consisting of S2000s, 350Zs, and the dozens of E36 M3s out there that don't autocross any more because they aren't competitive against the S2K in stock trim. It's a bit unfair to have a BS car go against a Miata, but by the same token it's also a bit unfair to have the same BS car against a Z06 or even a C4.
Hopefully it'll pan out well.

OK, I went and checked the '03 rule book and it hasn't been classed in street prepared yet...so it is in ASP temporarily until the SEB officially classes it. Rumors I've heard indicate that its weight will put it in BSP when it is finally classed. It will have a good chance to be competitive in that class.

Until they combine C4 and C5 Vettes into the current ASP, present BS cars have no good SP place to go...

I've been running BSP with the injen and different tires. No one has yet told me that its wrong. I thought (probably wrongly, because I'm new at this) that the car was always in its letter category, i.e. B and then just moved up the ladder from stock, street prep, etc.
Thats not right?

jzr, can you elaborate on your miata comment:
quote:
" It's a bit unfair to have a BS car go against a Miata, but by the same token it's also a bit unfair to have the same BS car against a Z06 or even a C4."
I know many BS cars have a tough time against the miata and vice versa....when I get rid of my 2000LS Miata I certainly dont want to take a step backwards. How are the Z's stacking up against the Miata?

mx5jim, what I meant by that is that even the slower BS cars will still outdrag a CSP car, before SP mods are taken into account. I think the Miatas and CRXs have a lot more to gain potentially from the update/backdate clause than the current BS cars (S2000, Boxster, M3, Z4) - but these newer, heavier cars can add a lot more wheel and tire to make up for their weight, and, well, um, who knows.
I guess it's all just speculation and bench/paper racing until someone (who knows what they're doing) actually builds a car tries it. I come from the perspective of a BS competitor whose car is classed also in ASP, and don't think it could be competitive there or in BSP, even after thorough development. Or maybe it would just be very course dependent?
I'm dreaming to think it'll ever get moved to CSP...

I do agree that SP is not kind to BS cars. However, I'm not convenced that cars should be classed taking into consideration the level of skilled drivers who compete in them rather than simply by the car's potential alone.

SP= lowering, stiffening, lightening, camber correction, bushings, fat wheels/tires, more hp/tq, better LSD, etc. etc
If I was going to run BSP I'd seriously consider a 350Z, providing that's where it ends up.
