Default Disappointing Night at the Track

I've been waiting all winter for Beaver Springs to open up for Friday Night Street Racing, but the weather didn't want to cooperate and there was a slight drizzle all night. I was hoping to pull some good 60's but with a wet track that wasn't going to happen. I only managed to get 2 runs in before the track was deemed to slick to run anymore, but I was at least able to get some more insight into how to best launch the Z. I set the my tires to about 25-26 psi for the runs. Both times before I ran I spun my tires very quickly to clean off the mud/stones before the run. The bad wheel hop makes this pretty nasty. My first run I tried to be pretty agressive, and just dropping the clutch at 2600 rpm. This gave me nasty wheel hop and then it finally caught when it hit a dry patch of track and it bogged, and I only got a 2.47 60'. The next run I tried something different, revving to around 3500 rpm and I let the clutch take some of the abuse. This worked MUCH better. It launched hard despite the wetter track and I got NO wheel hop (and I even beat the 3000GT VR-4 out of the hole!) and ran a 2.325 60'. This run would have been better, but I shifted very agressively into 2nd and the tires broke loose and spun hard on the wet track and I had to let off so I didn't lose it. They closed the track right after this run. Overall it wasn't such a bad night, I was quicker on the light than I thought I would be since I haven't done much racing lately, and although I didn't get a great launch I at least got a little practice, plus they gave us all a rain check. Hopefully next weekend will be nicer so I can pull some good 60's and hopefully some 13's!
