Default What I don't get...

I'm not very versed in this, but:

Alot these cars that talk about being faster, most are super charged or turboed right?

Not all of them though, I know.

Isn't that kinda, uneven?

Should we not compare when/if any of us add FI to our Z's?

Shouldn't it be?

NA v. NA

FI v. FI

Tell me your opinons, I was kinda wonderin' about this and I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about racing.

My opinion... run what you brung. No excuses about FI/NA, displacement, weight, cost, nitrous, etc. If you're worried about things being fair on the street, strip, or track you might as well keep your car in the garage.

And yet, every single racing organization differs from your opinion, because every single one has CLASSES, from stock to severely modified. They also arrange cars by displacement, or some other "class", so that your 200hp don't have to run against a 500HP behemoth, which would be a stupid waste of time anyway.

Yes, on street racing everybody runs what they got. The mistery is part of the thrill, I guess. It would seem (to me) cheating to win a pink slip with hidden turbos or other mods doh. Full disclosure should be part of the game, IMHO. I don't street (or otherwise) race.

And there are places for "bring what you got". But participants should be aware that it is a bring what you got event. And then you are free to participate, or not.

As it is, with my stock Z, I am sure there are many others out there with 300HP++ that can beat me easy. But so what. Unless the cars are comparable in performance, is not really a race...

Again, all my little tiny opinion.

Thats all very nice but on the street its always run whatcha brung. If you didnt bring enough dont talk sh*t and dont race, simple as that. Yes sanctioned racing has classes but street racing isnt sanctioned. Get out on the street and watch some of the hard core street racers, they dont care about disclosing mods and being fair, its about winning and beating down the other guy, and making money. Its not pretty, but its an American tradition, and I like it. Plus its also an excuse to get out of the house and hang out with other enthusiasts, and see some badass rides.

Racing isn't fair. Every one of those people involved in those CLASSES is trying to find ways around the RULES that govern them. I've been involved in organized, sanctioned racing my entire life. If you're not breaking the rules you're skirting them, and if you're not doing either you're not competitive.

As for keeping things fair on the street, you're kidding yourself. Maybe you can console yourself that the guy that blew you doors off "cheated" because he didn't telll you he had nitrous or understated his mods, but in my world the only thing that matters is that he blew your doors off.

I don't race my car, I was just curious. Although watching cars at the track is fun and I really enjoy watching it it. So don't direct your "Keep it in the garage" comments at me.

I don't race cars, I race my body and it's always be against the roid boys or guys taking supplements and how I have to damn near kill myself to keep on their levels. While I don't choose to juice, I could. I like being NA opposed to the FI'ers in the gym.

But in competitions we are screened, a few roid boys will slip by but for the most part it's us naturals. That's what kinda sparked the question in me.

We're divided, so I was wondering if cars were. Just a simple question that seemed to get some people panties in a bunch.

As for street racing? It's stupid and dangerous. I've seen wrecks, known people who've died doing it. It's just stupid. But I'm sure Vin Diesel loves you for it and would gladly take you back to his house party and offer you a Corona.

I've got a stock Z, it'll probably remain that way unless I want a little extra if we get a decent ECU. It gets me from point A to point B, that's it's job and it does it very well. I may take it to the track one day, I really want to just to open it up somewhere safe and sanctioned. All in all.

Take it to the track.

Seems to me like you're the one getting your panties in a bunch. I directed my "keep it in the garage" comment to anyone who races and makes excuses - if you fall in that category then, sure, it was directed at you.

As for street racing, I don't do it either. Did you see the part about spending my entire life in and around racing? I don't need to race on the street. So Vin Diesel and the rest of the meatheads will have to find another pretty boy to drink Coronas with.

If it wasn't directed at me I withdraw my statement then.

Just like life, racing is not fair. Someone will always come along with more money, more parts, and more power, and smoke you. Take your losses like a man, and give respect where it's due. I'm a nitrous lover, always have been, always will be. I could care less what another car has, if it beats me, I don't whine like a 12 year old girl. If I had a dollar for everytime someone wanted to race me without the bottle, or complained because they got obliterated, I would have my Z by now. Run what ya brung, hope ya brung enough.

That is true, whoever is willing to dump the most $$$ in their car will win.

Zing.

What a testosterone dripping ******** attitude to life.

So, in your "world", if I work out I can just beat the crap out of you and thats ok, because thats what I brought....

Lets "extreme" the position : If I show up here and say I raced my 350Z against a Yugo and won, did we all "brought what we had", or am I just a moron? I don't see how I can race my 350Z against a Yugo and claim to be a "winner". To me, thats more like been a LOOSER.

So you and I get to that bring it on race, on two 350Zs. But you have a hidden turbo I didn't know about. And, of course, you win. Did you? Or did you cheat your way there? To me a cheater is always a looser. What did you prove? That with a hidden turbo or NOS you can beat a stock? So what?? We all know that! Wow, what a "stud", he knows how to cheat.

So, since life is a ***** and thats the way it is, I don't race, and leave children to it. Have fun.

Theres never going to be a 100% "fair" way to compare cars unless everybody has the same car, with the same type of engine, the same displacement, and there is no aftermarket. What fun would that be? The entire point of racing is to win, and if you want to win you'll do it with either more skill or a better set-up car for the type of racing you are doing. That's not cheating, it's competition. Sandbagging and otherwise ********ting about mods is an American tradition.

From the ranting you're doing here, I don't really think you understand the point some of us are making - if you beat the crap out of a smaller guy for no good reason, then yeah, you're a loser. Now, if that little guy talks a bunch of smack to you, then in my world you have every right to pound him senseless.

The same goes for cars. There's an interesting thread on LS1.com right now about a modded Lightning vs. a turbo Escort that serves as a good example. Sure a Lightining picking on an Escort may seem pretty retarded, but the Lightning owner was minding his own business when the Escort driver started telling him how slow his truck was. Now, the Escort is going to get destroyed and the kid's going to whine and make up a bunch of excuses as to why he got raped.

If I showed up in a Yugo talking trash about how slow your car was and how I'd suck the paint off of it as I drove by, then you would not be a loser for putting me back in my place.

It just boils down to the fact that straight line racing specially street racing is not racing, take the car out on the track and test the power of the car along with the handling and the driver to see who is best, anyone can stick 100 shot of NOS to beat you down the block.

I must say, that's a very hard position for me to understand. When it comes to racing I'm much more interested in the driver than the car. When all the cars are equal the only thing that makes one car faster than the other is racecraft. That's why spec racing is so much more interesting than an "everything goes" series.

I get bored out of my mind watching F1, for example, but I can watch Speevision World Cup or European Touring Car racing all day. Why should I watch an F1 race when the finishing order is more predictable than the tides? I don't see the "fun" in having cars that are in completely different leagues performance-wise racing in a straight line. The only way the 500hp twin-turboed, NO2 fed monster Supra will lose to the stock Civic Si is if something breaks. I don't see the appeal unless there's a reasonable handicapping system.
