Hit the track, my 1st race ever was vs a modded Evo!
I went up to New England Dragway tonight and I got off 3 runs in 2 hrs.. My very first time racing ever they move me up the line to pair with an Evo with intake/Full exhaust..
Track and car conditions:
About 45 degrees with a very strong head wind at your face, I did all my runs at 32 psi, should of gone lower but I forgot my gauge. Odo a young 3500 miles. I launched at about 2200 but I been doing 75% gas till 15-20 mph or so than WOT to be safe, the last run I tried to just mash it during the launch but its a hard habit to break and didn't..
The race with the Evo went like this-- He pulled about 1 1/2 car lenghts off the line on me and maintained it till 3/4 the way down and then I started gaining and it was over..
Here are the numbers for my race with the Evo:
Me:
60' = 2.24
14.22@100.81
Evo:
60' = 2.032
13.88@96.97
---------------------
My 2nd run:
60' = 2.31
14.30@100.22
---------------------
3rd run:
60' = 2.316
14.29@100.41
---------------------
There were 2 other Z's there, 1 was tallyman from this board in a Silver Track, I only seen one of his runs and it was 14.61 but I forget the speed, his previous run was alot better. I seen another guy in a DB Track pull a 14.11@100.61. I was very happy with my consistency for my 1st time racing and next time I plan to be alot more aggressive on my launch and lower my rear tire pressure to 25-28 psi..

good results! i got very very close times but 1mph slower traps. I was having problems off the line. I am going back on tuesday to try again with 20psi tire pressure in the back. Mine is bone stock at the moment...

I don't think I am gonna go back up until April 26th for Import wars. But I plan to be better prepared this time and I am gonna try some diffrent launch techniques, I am very happy with my runs given it being my 1st time and low milege I have.
Hey daytona...
Yeah I was slightly disappointed in my #'s.. My best was a 14.3 @100mph w/2.3xx 60'.. Not too bad i guess... I was have some real traction issues out of first. I got this bad habit of getting a little too aggressive out of the hole.. Next time i go, I am gonna try a few new things, especially launching technics.. Not to mention I was at a young 3800mi... I cant wait to see if all the talk about the ECU unlocking at like 6000-7000mi...

Sup Tallyman,
I was pretty happy with my runs, I was very consistant and I have alot of room for improvment givin my 60 foot times and my current launch technique and like you the miles ticking by should help also, and next time i'll drop the tire pressure and break the habit of babying the throttle out of the gate.. So far my best run is a 14.22@100.81 with a 2.24 60'
How much longer did you stay? After my 7:30 run I parked it and watched till 8 and went home, it was getting so packed I would of been lucky to get 1 more run before 10. I might try to go up next weds if I get outta work early, but I am deffinatly gonna be there for import wars on Sat the 26th.

Daytona-
I ended up staying till about 930.. It started to rain and freezing rain so I left...
Yeah, next time I am gonna try the finesiing the clutch and gas off the line in 1st.. Heck I am even thinking of riding the clutch out of 2nd off the line.. I'm gonna have to experiment on the street a little more.. Anyway, Before I go up next time I'm gonna try putting on a grounding kit to see if that helps a little too..
I dont know if I'll be there next wed, I may but with my tbird.. Keep an eye out for me, its a black tbird turbo coupe with a 5.0 in it, you wont miss it, its usually the only old school turbo coupe up there and sits very loud and abnoxious.. he he he... I may go up with the slicks and try to pull the wheels up off the ground.. I was soo close last year to doing that, so thats my goal this year in it...

haha thats sounds like a plan.. I'll keep an eye open for ya if I end up going. My friend is probably gonna go up with me on weds if I do, he has a 2000 Celica GTS and last year ran a best of 15.4@92.7 with intake/exhaust, in the off season he added a Alum flywheel, short throw shifter with racing kevlar racing clutch kit, pulleys and headers and it feels way faster so I can't wait to see his runs..

Just found something interesting about my race with the evo that will put a smile on 350z owner's faces, check it out:
My mph at the 1/8 mark was 78.18 (100.81mph 1/4) vs the evo's 81.16 (96.97mph 1/4). I ended 3.7 Mph faster at the 1/4 so my Z gained about 22.5 Mph in the 2nd half vs just about 15.8 Mph. Thats a big diffrence in top end power

A properly driven EVO is scary! I don't want much to do with them on the 1/4 till I get more mods. They are going 13.1 @ 104+mph stock down to the filter!
Now, with a boost controller running 20psi, S-AFC running about 12.0 A/F, 3" cat-back system, and 3" downpipe you have a 12.54 @ 112mph on your hands!!!
My low 13 second Camaro is in big need of mods!

About the Evo's mods, I talked with him for a few and it had 2000 miles on it and short ram intake and a full turbo back exhaust. I didn't see his other runs but the one I ran with him was my and his first run ever with our cars. He should be able to pull a 1.8 in the 60' but he pulled a 2.0 but I could of launched better myself. His break-in procedure he said included drifting out the driveway of the dealership.
Sure thing, I should have the numbers next weds or a week from tomorrow after import wars, of course weather permitting
After pulling 14.2@100.81 with 3500 miles and a 2.24 60' with some more break-in and a better launch I am confident i'll be into the 13's.
