I was coming home from work tonight and noticed a blue mustang in my rearview mirror. I weaved in and out of traffic to get to the front of the pack. He followed me. I did a quick jump around some traffic and ended up about a 1/4 mile up the freeway from him. I was doing about 65 at this point. I crested a bridge onto M5 and there was a cop and the bottom of the hill. Thankfully I was only doing about 65. The mustang caught up to me as we passed the cop. I waited about a mile and hit it. At this point the mustang taking my cue basically walked all over me. We did some quick runs from like 60-110. It ended up being a 2003 svt cobra. All I can say is I am impressed. He walked all over the Z!! Oh well it was fun till the twin turbo kit comes out for the Z. The good news is the other day I beat a late 60's camaro by about 2 car lengths. I figured he would have taken me as it said 396 ss on the fenders. Maybe I will keep her!!

 

ya know-- i love fast cars and all-- really-- and i will build mine to be fast--- but------- put a hot chick inbetween a mustang and a 350z ----- and watch which one she wants to take a ride in

I would be willing to bet the price difference between what you get for a trade in for the Z and the price of a new Cobra would more than cover a turbo kit...just guessing...

 

OH I am not upset!! It was a sweet race and I had a smile ear to ear. It is hard to argue with 400hp. I just thought it was a funny way to start this thread. I looked into gettting a cobra. It is about the same price as my Z. If I wanted a mustang I would have gotten it. I wanted a Z and that is what I got. I just wish nissan offered a twin turbo from the factory say 400hp!!!!

Yeah, rated. But they are dynoing 365 to the wheels stock. That's like 430 crank HP. They are bad to the bone. I almost bought one but opted for the Z. I just could not justify paying 31K for what was, inside and at heart, a Mustang. Blah. It turns out being an expensive motor. But if you really want one, I will hook you up.

 

This always cracks me up....have you ever thought that you guys bought a Maxima....aka Family sedan with 2 doors.

Sound outrageous??? Same thing as calling a 03 cobra just another mustang.....IMO

 

Dude you are soooooo wrong!!!! The Maxima uses a completely different platform than the Z.

We bought a G35 sedan but with 2 doors!!

hmmm lets see, the cobra as similar body parts to the mustang gt, its called a mustang cobra, its on the same chassis with diffrent suspension that sucks and with a diffrent engine and tranny, the Z is not called a maxima Z, its on a completly diffrent chassis and the maxima is fwd, so your pretty off their

I hear a lot about turbos coming out for the 350z, but I read somewhere that the engine in the cars run at 10.87:1
Isn't that going to be cutting it really slim on how much boost can be run? Are you planning on taking apart a less then year old engine to put in new pistons, or heads, or something that extreme?

Just curious.

 

I guess if you need a car to get hot chicks then i would go with the 350z. Girls do like that car better.

But i have been married for 10 years. Maybe my choice in cars helped me snag a lady 10 years younger than me. j/k

Its an ugly pos but i like fast cars.

 

It may not be the prettiest of cars, but it does what it sets out to do--tear up asphalt.

 

cool car man, mine was 372 rwhp bone stock too. And you guys are right it is a beast, and very mod friendly, oh and it really is just a little more then your track model. Also 03 Cobras are capable of 12's stock at about 110-113 mph.

 

Ok....i'm not a Ford guy by any stretch but i give credit where it is due.....for having a suspension that "sucks" i GUARANTEE a 03 Cobra would eat you alive on a road course...hell a LS1 f-body would probably eat you alive on a high speed road course as well.

THe 350Zs are awesome little cars but they don't have the HP to play with 350+HP cars.

 

I don't think anyone is disputing that fact. But that is not the only reason to own a car. I don't think you will dispute that fact. The Cobra is faster. Way faster. But that is all it is over the Z. There is more to life behind the wheel. The older I get, the more I realize that.

 

Brave soul. I know where you were running, and it crawls with cops. That trooper has been camped out where M5 comes off of 96 for a couple weeks now. Anyway, I think I've seen your car around - there can't be that many blue 350's around our parts. As for the 396, no surprise there. Probably stock, and if it was the cam in those BB396's is pathetic. Nice job representing modern EFI.

 

iv read about there rear independet suspension its heavy and alot of cobra owners get the rear suspension of the GT's and i doubt a cobra can handle better than a Z also have fun with all the problems that car is going to give you

 

ok---- so you guys in cobras are pushing 360+rwhp---- and ya know what-- that is sick--- but the cobra is an already very well tunned machine--- as many of the domestic cars are--- look though-- to get those domestincs to run 10's, ya get all sorts of funny idles n ****--- one thing bout japans imported car are that they always seem to be very detuned-- best example--- the honda------ but thats a whole other storty-- all im saying it the 350z is brand new--- and things like intake manio n **** are just starting to come out, and from the looks of things, the car is reacting to these mods with a big fat ****ing smile!!!!!!-- give the 350 another year to get her **** together---- then well talk--- common now--- the mustangs been around for how many years?????? theve had plenty of time to get things right

 

OK I was agreeing with all my fellow Z owners until this post came up. What your saying about Import cars is completely *** backwards. On a lot of Hondas you have to spend $500 to get 4 hp. Cars like the Z-28 and Mustang can add 30-40 hp just with an exhaust change. It's a lot cheaper to get a Domestic in the 10's then it is a Import.
I'll still take my Z over any Domestic sports car made (maybe not a vette).
