Solo II Question
Hello,
I was out at the Texas Motor Speedway last weeking to do the Mazda Rev It Up. I noticed there was an SCCA event going on in another parking lot. I want to say it was the Solo II.
It seemed pretty cool, but my question is how bad would it fry stock brakes & tires?
I saw a few Z's out there that looked like they came in on trailers, so it makes me wonder if I use my Z as a daily driver if it is feasible.
Thanks, Richard

Lots of people are driving their daily drivers in these. I've gone to a couple of days worth.
You will wear out tires quicker, as well as brakes. Other than that, you don't get that many runs in a day, so it isn't like you are putting hours of track time on your car. The event I went to we got 6 runs due to the number of people there, and the laps were running in the high 60s, low 70 seconds

3 or 4 runs, which last roughly 60 seconds each. You wont fry your brakes. The reason cars are on trailers is that they have race tires, and its easier to change them at home than in a parking lot. I drive to my event on my race tires.
Tires take a beating at an autox...most folks that stick with it end up buying a dedicated set of race wheels and tires so they don't wear out their street tires too quickly.
Because of the low speeds (the courses are designed so that the fastest cars should not exceed 60-70mph), with stock pads your rotors and pads will not wear that much faster. Unlike road racing, where lap after lap you would be diving into turn 1 from the straight after reaching 100+mph and needing to slow to 30-40mph; at an autox you might only have one 60 to 30 brake manuver and several 45 to 25 manuvers. Really, rush-hour traffic driving is harder on your car's brakes.
Go out...give it a try...it is one of the best ways to safely learn car control and become a more safe driver.

I don't know about the most fun sitting down, but it's an incredible rush. On good days I can get some runs out of me that when I am done I get out of the car and I am shaking because there's so much adrenaline running through me.

As far as the sitting down part goes, reflecting from the vantage point of wise geezerdom ---> it's the most fun you can have sitting down
tho I'll be happy to listen to opposing points of view
