Default Raced an Evo on the highway..

Ok this should settle alot of debates. I was coming back from a friend's house that is about 40 miles of highway from my house. It was about 3 AM and very few cars on the 4 lane highway. I was fighting off falling asleep while on cruise control at 75. I see in my rear view in the distance a car gaining on me pretty good and once it got closer he pulled up next to me, it was a Yellow Evo with what sounds to be an exhaust on it. I release the cruise control and now I shift to 3rd at about 70.. He would not roll down the window but I was ready to go when he was. He gassed it before I did and his rear bumper was at my side view mirror before we evened off and I proceeded to walk him up 135 or so before I shut it down. I gained a total of what looked to be 1.5-2 car lenghts. He of course kept on going and flew by me after I shut it down Never seen him again.

Needless to say I was wide awake after that and I was thrilled at the result. I knew the Z would have quite a bit more on the top end so I wasn't really surprised.

Don't Evo's run LOW 13's stock?
I'd imagine it having quite a bit of top end with a turbo.

More like mid to high 13's at best... And I raced one at the track with intake/exhaust and he only got me by 1 car lenght, and the AWD advantage is gone from a roll. The only evo i seen hit low 13's at the track had full exhaust, intake, and a boost controller with more boost, he was running 13.2@102

0-100:
350z 25.6 seconds
Evo 29.8 seconds

And you can bet if it was a 10-100 Mph the evo would probably be closer to 35 seconds

No surprise here. These 4-cyl rally cars aren't much of a challenge from a roll. The AWD launch is the secret to their impressive times.

At first I didn't like the styling of the new Z, but it grows on me more and more now. By the way, good race. Evo8 and Sti are serious 4 cylinders cars and put up a good competition to most cars out there on the road.

with minor mods...
exhaust, leaning air/fuel, and keeping boost at 19 psi it easily gains 50hp+. Some guys are putting around 300awhp... just needs to have the right tuning, since these these cars run so rich up top!

Even just a tuning on the air/fuel, will get rid of the power drop up top on the EVOs.

Well,..the High speed is what helped ALOT!!!!!
2 of my Friends have EVO's(with me thinkin of gettin one as well)

<------BIG LANCER fan since EVO V

and i was in 2nd @ about 45-50mph(not sure but 2nd gear reguardless) and my friend was in 2nd as well in the EVO,...well 1, 2 and then 3 honk's we we're off,.... and he was pretty much gone---about a half a car from his rear bumper to my front just like that,.and still pullin'--then I noticed i started reeling him in a bit but had to shut down @ about 103 or so--not sure how we would have ended but EVO's,WRX,.STi;'s etc will run out of power in the top end Range no doubt--need different final drives to help that out---but either way!VERY FAST from Stand Stil---2nd gear in the EVO IS THE BEST **** EVER!!!!(should have remembered that when we raced)l

Driving one they feel insane!!!!---both of my friends @ this point have full HKS exhaust;s and Test pipes,.etc one of my friend's ran a 13.1 in his Stock

Good Kill though---not doubting you 1 bit!
The Z is by far the "pimp panty dropper",...but EVO is Legend of JDM super cars---might end up w/ a White EVO in a few mths,.but still not 100%?? So don't bust on me yet!

by the way,..if you've seen Jackie Chan's 'WHO AM I"--you'll never be the same w/ Lancers--great Lancer scene in that movie but too bad most is very well fake!

Cheers guys/gals

Glad you cleared that up. When I first saw your post I was thinking, Damn my old 85 Mustang GT would have walked both of these cars with it's 0-100 of 18.8 sec.

I believe 0-100 for the 350z is rated at 13.8-14.0.

but EVO is Legend of JDM super cars
notice--->"cars"--->(s) being this is not the only one! Skyline is the daddy,.....but look how many EVO's there has been--8 and all we're of the same quality---Skylines went from 280Z lookin slightly fast to faster as the models got higher--then R32 R33 R34 came and no doubt own as The best JDM Supercar around! but even a skyline can be beaten by a Starlet

Still not sure If I'll get one but its a big maybe!!???

THE japanese supercar is a Tommy Kaira ZZII. But then again, it does use the BNR34GTR motor/drivetrain reconfigured to a mid engine awd setup, so i guess thats saying a LOT for the skyline.

Hello all,
I am new to your board but was informed of this site through a friend who owns a 350Z. I do not own one but hope that I can contribute anything I do know whenever I can...especially since we all seem to enjoy the same hobby.

On the note regarding the EVO versus the Z race. May I add that the gearbox for the Lancer is primarily designed for acceleration, therefore with only 5 speeds most EVOs will top off at 137-145 mph in 5th. I can comment on this because I own a '97 eclipse GSX that has had an EVO3 tranny and ring gear to improve the 0-120 mph sprints one would encounter on the streets :-). The EVO's gear ratios have pretty much stayed consistent throughout its "evolution" up until this year where I believe a 6spd version is now available in Japan.

If you need specific gear ratios and final drives I can provide them if anybody is interested.
