I have to wonder whether putting an ever-wider tire on the same 8" wheel is really giving you better handling. It seems to me the tire would get squeezed and the contact patch would become rounder. This is not beneficial.

My basis for this belief is my old '86 Honda CRX-Si (well it was new when I bought it back in '86... :-) It had, I think (foggy memory) 6.5" wheels with 215 tires. I was in an accident and ruined one of the wheels. I used that as an excuse to replace all the wheels with non-Honda ones. I went with wheels a half inch wider (7" I suppose if I'm correct above), but I kept the same tires. My handling improved substantially. And I don't mean just a little bit. Because the tire was able to spread out flatter, I suppose. That was the only explanation I could come up with for why the same tire would perform so much better on a wider wheel.

 

The 94-2001 Cobra rims are 17x8 with 5 lug pattern, will fit just right on the non track z's that came with 17's and will leave you in the stock class, has same offset too.
I have been running a 265 KO on the back with my stock rims on a Track model, 18 x8.5, the fit is a little tight but seems too work fine for AutoX, wear pattern shows it is too tight. John

I guess if you make add appropriate mods you are in BSP. That's cool, as long as I know what I'm in. I never could figue out where ASP came into the picture, that's big HP area!

 

We were in ASP or SM2 because SCCA hadn't classed the Z yet and ASP is the catch all class for cars with no class, at least thats what I was told. I'm glad to see the Z in BSP finally. Now I can quite running SM2 without the SM2 mods!
