Default SCCA National Racing - GT-2

As most of you are aware of, we have been off running the SCCa National Road Racing series. And yes - we race against the GT-2 350Z of Jim Goughery.

This was a double National - two races - one weekend @ Pocono International Speedway. We also spend two days testing.

Race one - We qualify 25th in the grid due to a tire going low. With seven laps to go we are in the lead - We hold off al the Gt-2 Conmpetition and on the very last turn a wire breaks and we loose allpower to the motor. We finish 4th, but enought to keep out National run off hopes alive.

Race two - It is pouring rain and we qualify well. The day drys up and as we prepare for the race all the other GT-2 cars go back to slicks. We had a feeling that it was going to pour. I minutes before the race we go to wet tires. Our competion does the same aftyer the first lap in the poring rain. Needless to say we win the race.

We only have to finish our race at VIR and at Mid Ohio and we are off to the National Run offs.

The Z tradition continues.

Regards

Sounds like a fun weekend. How many GT-2 cars were in the races? Not too many here in SoCal.

We had 5 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday.

The grid was 39 cars - mostly GT-1 and the crash and burn class A/S. A good number of GT3 cars as well.

regards

Nice post on your season so far. Any thought given to rebodying to the 350Z (I assume you still use the Z32 body)? Also, what motors are you running in your car? Most non-SCCA folks don't know that you can run everything from the inline sixes to the 3.0 liter VQ in GT2.

See you at the Nissan tent. I'm not campaigning my GT car this year and have qualified a old SSC car that I'm DRIVING to Mid-Ohio.

Not sure aout going to the 350Z body configuration yet. We have two mor eraces to run and all we need to do is finish 15 laps. You know the routine. You are correct on the drive train. We run the l28 in the 300Zx for weight purposes. I still have a 100 pounds to get out of the car for the runoffs. The VQ still has a lot of development in GT-2 yet to go. JG spent alot of time fine tuninng the motor at Pocono and still not there. Lord knows that 350is fast though.

More than likely I will fly out for our race only. The International Z car Convention is two weeks after the run offs and I am the chairman of the event. The car will be there though in all it's glory.

See ya there
