Default Question HR heads on a DE ? possiable?

Ok I google and came up with nothing that I was searching for ,

Dont flame for me asking this , As Ive read the motor are totally different but is the HEAD completely differnt than the DE motors?

if any motor gurus could answer this for me because its driving me insane.

iirc the revups and HR's can interchange cams. valvetrain has been used as well. i would think that if they can be used then the revup would be the likely candidate. i have read somewhere that you can put revup heads on a de with little mod, so who knows.

i just can't imagine them flowing that much better, and if all you are doing it for are the cams/valvetrain there are better options out there.

thanks I was curious cause im trying to do a mild build before I start spraying on the FWD VQ.

Heads are not interchangeable from de to revup unless you swap out the ecu. I'd imagine the same holds true for a revup to hr swap or visa-versa. HR headgaskets & head studs on the de are becoming popular though...

do the HR heads have cvtc on intake and exhaust? if not then you should be abe to. the reason you can do revup onto a non-revup is that you wouldnt be able to control the exhaust cam timing with a non-revup ECU, but if the HR doesnt have cvtc on exhaust then i think it would work. the only problem is that you would need a new intake, since the ports on the HR head are square where as the LIM of the de is oval port, so you would need an LIM with square ports to go with your new heads

1. The HR has exhaust CVTC.

2. The square port thing only applies to where the LIM meets the UIM. The intake ports on the HR head have the same exact shape as the non-HR heads.

3. One could then use the L32 altima LIM and plenum.



Might have to use an L32 inner timing cover as well depending on the bolt pattern...

the l32 would work if it wasnt for the dual stage, that would need a bunch of planning considering the z33 doesnt even have a single stage

Simple RPM switch, or window switch if you wanna get "fancy".

can a window switch control seperate butterfly's? the new manifold is not the same as the old in the sense of a single butterfly, it has two seperate valves which operate on different circuits. so its not like the max's open/closed/open with a single valve so...

I know there are two power valves. That doesn't necessarily mean they don't both open at the same time though.

Don't waste your money on a port and polish. VQ heads (regardless of what engine model) flow AWESOME. All you need is cams unless you are doing a really crazy setup (over 800whp).

ive been under the impression that they open at different times. if not then i guess it would be no different than 1 valve

The FSM doesn't really specify. They might in fact open at different times.... :shrug:




Either way, getting it to work wouldn't be too much of a challenge.

i guess even if they open at different times, which i might suspect, and they only open/close once then all you would need is two rpm switches like the msd rpm switch

thinking out loud:
wouldnt throttle position want to be used to trigger this ctvc in addition to rpm. seems kinda a crude way to control such and advanced feature

what? we havent really talked about cvtc. were talking about power valves on the intake. for cvtc youd want to take in more than just tps and rpm

does anyone know if you can use the greddy vmanage to control the cvtc if the ECU doesn't have it to begin with? (I.E. revup or HR heads on a DE block with a DE ECU)

All VQ35DE ECU's include intake CVTC control. If you are referring to the exhaust CVTC, the v-manage has not been confirmed to be able to control it.
