I was wondering instead of buying expensive arp rod bolts to put in my nonrevup rods that will fail long before the arp bolts I would look into the revup and HR bolts. So for $6 at my local nissan dealer I found out that I can use revup bolts in my nonrevup at $34.80 for all 12. I figured this information might benefit someone. For any nonrevup owner doing cams and higher rev limit, a set of rod bolts and valve springs might be a good idea. The lines I drew and the bolts placement are a little askew but the nonrevup and revup bolts measured with calipers were equal.

I would like to know if the rev up valve springs fit and what the specs are. Being it would be about $130 for a set.

I can already see this starting a huge argument, so let me just state FTR..........

I am NOT saying that Rev-up rod bolts are = to ARP, in fact I'm not even coming close to saying that.

I am merely posting side-by-side comparison pics since I had the opportunity to do so, allthough I will say this: With the rev-ups increased rev-limit, and the fact that these bolts are only $30 vs $180, this might be a cheaper alternative for those that want to rev out to 7200 safely.

Very good point, but if the stock bolts are good for 500+ over stock limit, don't you think the rev-ups are good much past their stock limiter as well? I merely said 7200 to hold myself of any liability.

Depending on cams, you would probably want to use HR springs, plus an extra set of shims, the HR springs are the same size.

To me, this is a no-brainer. If I'm building a race motor, the last place I would skimp on is the hardware. ARP has such superior materials in their rod bolts, pictures do them no justice. Nissan specs all their parts, including rod bolts, for a particular application and the DE, Revup and HR hardware is for NA use and certain performance parameters- no more, no less.

But for those on a budget--particularly going FI--don't try to save a few bucks here. Recognize what kind of stresses you're buying for to ensure you have a wide margin for error. Also, the cost of labor is worth something too and putting in stock rod bolts for anything other than a stock rebuild simply doesn't make any sense IMO.
