Sick rims. I hear good things about the nittos. i have the falken Azenis Rt615's and love them. After trying pole positions and the RE050A's I would never go back.

I like the new wheels as well and should be a good set for my needs. I'm lucky that all of the problems i've had so far are not too severe yet.

I've been struggling looking for a good pair of tires that are not too narrow and/or tall/short, one of the reason I stayed away from the 295/35 and 285/35. To make things easier I've actually decided to go with the next size up in wheels. So the new wheels are now 19x9.5(+24) and 19x10.5(+24), with those sizes I have a better selection on wide tires. Hankook V12 275/35-19 & 305/30-19 are what I will most likely get. I looked at the R888 as well but since this is still a street car I shied away from them. What do you think of the newer setup, I think it shouldn't understeer too much?

Thanks, yeah I've also heard god things about the RT615 but they have such limited sizes and now with me having 19" it completely removes them as an option. BTW, what sizes are you running on your car?

I run 225/45/18 on 18x8 rims. I have an Altima SE-R. Thinking of getting some 17x9.5 rims and running some wider tires. If not then ill get some wider 18inch tires.

 

Time to try some of the newer tires! I was an avid RT615 person as well, and they were tops for the street a few years ago, but the newer tires have really stepped it up, and left the RTs behind.

I like those big sizes for sure! You will likely get some VDC and TCS feedback since the front tire is so much taller than the rear tire. It'll also mess with the ABS if you took this setup to the track and were doing any sort of trail braking. The 275/35/19 is 26.58" tall, and the 305/30/19 is 26.20" tall, so they are 1.4% off (in the wrong direction, i.e. the VDC and TCS like the rear tire to be 3% or less taller than the front). We used to run 265/35 and 305/30 on my wife's last ZR and I loved the wide stance, but as the diff aged, it got real quirky because of the delta between the front and the rear. That set up (265/305) is on her 07' ZR (for now) and it's certainly not as bad, so I don't know if things changed much from 04' to 07' or if it's the fresher differential.

What's the problem with the 35-series rear tire? You could still go 295/35 with the 265/35, or you could find a 265/30 or 275/30 for the front to couple with the 305/30.

 

Eeeks you are right, didn't update my excel worksheet correctly. The front are way too tall at 83.5 which puts me at 4.14% off in the wrong direction like you mentioned, I mistakenly had them down at 81.8. Probably 285/30/19 or 275/30/19 will be better but that seems too wide to fit on the front or 255/35/19 but that seems too narrow compared to the rear. Leaning towards the 255, what do you think? I wish I could go 265/35/19 but Hankook doesn't make them in that size.

 

What street tires do you suggest? Always looking for better traction. We can resort to pm as to not derail this thread.

 

The 265/35 is what we have, and it's still too tall at 26.3 vs the 305/30 at 26.2, but it's close. The 255 will be better. It does look like the V12 comes in a 265/30 and 275/30, which may not be all that comfortable, but will mate well with the 305:

I've heard great things about the BS RE-11, Dunlop Z1 Star Spec, and Kumho XS. I've historically run Michelin PS2s on the street, though I'm admittedly a bit of a tire snob. The Advan AD07 has had good reviews as well, but not from anyone I know personally. Maybe we could take any further discussion to PM.

this is the thing with tires - what works well on one chassis does not automatically translate to working well on another. How a tire reacts on your car, and how it reacts on a Z is a function of alot of different things. I previously ran RT615's a few years ago - nice enough tires, albeit limited sizing. I run RE050A's now (wider, and larger diameter), and there is no comparison. I have significantly more grip in all conditions vs the Falkens.

 

Your definately right Adam. My RT615's are just about bald and still manage to give me more grip then I remember having with half way worn RE050A's. I also managed to get a lot more mileage out of the falkens and for half the price of the bridgestones. With a new set of falkens I never slepped in between shifts aswell. With the bridgestones I would get some tire spin.

the RE050A's were much better than the S03's that came with the car stock.

 

S03s were great tires. Your Z should have come with RE040A or RE050A stock.

 

Yeah, from what Ive seen before those Tomeis 264/264 cams do work really well with their headers...

But I have to hold off... need to finish the exhaust first, and other small misc things... hopefully get coupe 18s next year too!!

 

Well, got my car back from Infiniti on Wednesday and the howling from the differential is much better now but it is a little hard to tell because my front wheel is really loud from the control arm issue. On that regards I bought a new set of shims and bolts from SPL and they will arrive first thing next week.

Today I went to get my fenders rolled because of the 285 tiles rubbing on the rear, problem is fixed but now an even bigger problem. Paint is chipping/peeling/cracking almost all the way around where they rolled the fender. To say the least it is freaking annoying the crap out of me, can't do much about it cause I did sign a waiver but I didn't think it would happen...

 

add some touchup paint, it hasn't really cracked outside the fenders yet

 

Unfortunately at the extremities of the rolling the paint has chipped to the front side. I will add some touchup paint and clear nail polish and see how it is.

 

Wow sorry to see this gabe. Looks like they didn't heat up the paint with a heat gun before they rolled it.

How the hell did that shim pop out of your control arm?
Is this a common problem with the SPL arms?
Need to know because they are on my to get list.

 

^You can always baller up and see if some 350evo Front Arms hit the market. That being said....I don't think it is a common issue at all.....perhaps an oversight by someone doing the wrenching? Gabe, how low is your car?

 

Car is only 1.5" lower all the way around.

Not a common problem at all and is related to the casting bumps not being shaved off.

I think that is what happened. Unfortunately at that shop they did not allow me to watch them work. I read about a few on G35driver having a good experience with them so I didn't bother too much but in hindsight I should have.
