Might as well have the two entire exhaust systems laid out on the floor and take a pic, it'll help us get a better guess, maybe.

Well the y-pipe / exhaust will look the same, its all going to be custom fabrication.

Some videos of track time with the 2in pipe, messed up suspension, cockeyed motor. Just some issues I'm fixing this time around, remount the engine correctly, new control arms installed. New suspension, no squishy nismo suspension. FWD a lota issues with the squat and losing traction on the front tires, I know you guys don't have to worry about it but ya get the idea.

2 videos on slicks after I started to see something was going wrong with alignment etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m1Gz7UWL-w
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI6NKmcTaLA

My street tires track time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9c9Vk6Np3o

My slicks track times fighting the bad alignment show in the above videos, scary with that much pull you aren't used to.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-GKvNVw3uE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViWQwCGzhdQ

To more pressing matters, vote on the HP difference in crappy exhaust to proper exhaust! I'm not a crazy shifter and am new to the track so if you think I shift slow, I do. Wasn't out to murder the car the first 2 times out lol.

Here is all the garbage exhaust lined up.

Okay here is the measurement of the 2.25in (smallest choke on the entire setup...)

Goes into a 2.4/60MM

Here is all of the 3 sizes altogether, complete bad, 2.25in into a 2.4in into a 2.5in magnaflow resonator that I had added and failed to measure a year or so ago... After the resonator comes the 60mm 2.4in size again... I would have seen the flawed exhaust setup a year and a half ago when the resonator was put in if I had measured...

Here is the original poll question.

The question, I made it as short as possible to fit. The long version of the question is the following:

What will going from an ebay shorty header/VQ30 ypipe 1.90in I think or so, 2.25OD exhaust at its smallest choke hold TO an Altima long tube header, 2.25 Y-Pipe, and a 3in exhaust (1in ID upgrade) proper exhaust make on a cammed etc. 8000 revving ITB motor make?

Intake temps entering the horns should see up to a 30degree temp drop because of the setup we're using. My wife picked out the design and the waterjet did the work. Gota get some mesh and we'll be good to go.

Awesome!

Does water jet cutting ensure you don't need to paint the hood?

Still have to paint it, and get some anti rust stuff on it if you don't paint it right away. I haven't gotten the car fully painted yet so I put some antirust stuff on it for the time being.

And if you guys think it won't make any difference just say so on the exhaust.

What brand headers are those? Can you snap a picture of what the collectors look like on the inside? I want to see how the tubes merge.

*EDIT*

Never mind, found it on ebay. I want a true equal length setup, that's why I ask..

Nah that was on slicks, and the gtr wins in the end. Once I retune/redo the exhaust and a few other things, we'll see how well I do at the track.

I gotta say, seeing your build and what mods you have and how much power you are making i was thinking it should be more.... THEN i saw your headers and exhaust and that all made sense. Those new headers are nice with the longer tubes but the collectors could be better... Overall i think with the new headers and 3" exhaust, you will make a good deal more power...

^ that is yet to be determined. The balance of making power and having proper back pressure for the NA motor is tough to determine until you've tried it. Chances are you start losing power when over doing it with the exhaust.

The only proper back pressure for any car is NO back pressure.

Those headers do look better, but as already stated, I'm not a fan of the collectors..

Not true, the power band and average power will suffer with an exhaust with no back pressure. Low end torque will be 0 and the powerband might only start to climb past 4-5krpm, possibly later. Wouldn't be anything more than a track car that needs to be driven at 4k rpm or higher at any one time.

I hope you are joking. Unless you have FI...properly tuned exhaust is far better than just throwing the biggest pipe that fits. If that was the case, we all will have open dumps.

Case in point, last week we observed the new Camaro SS gaining approximately 15whp from a exhaust, then they added HFC...which lost about half the gain then they added resonated pipe which lost all the hp they gained and went back to stock.
