Default One More Rev-Up N/A Build:The Checklist

Hey guys Im in the final stages of preparation on my N/A build for my 05 G 6mt. I've been reading alot of different threads on N/A builds, a few Rev-up builds but mostly non rev-ups. As to what my goals and expectations are Im trying to fix a flaw infiniti or nissan wont always acknowledge...oil consumption, and to improve an otherwise solid engine. I previously owed an 03 6mt G and it never burned a drop of oil. So I started by buying new pistons and rods to correct the problem. At the same time I figured, since I'm taking it apart I might aswell have some fun with it and get the most power out of it but on a moderate level. As of right now I have acquired the basic parts while some are still on order:

Intake:
Z-tube
Modded OEM Air Box
K&N Filter
MRev2 Manifold
5/16 Plenum Spacer
GTM 3" MAF Housing (on order)

Block:
Spare Block Bored 0.020 over
Wiseco 11:1 96mm Forged Pistons
Eagle Forged Rods
ACL Main and Rod Bearings
ACL Thrust Washers
ARP Main and Head Studs
New Revup Oil Pump
New OEM Nissan Gasket Kit

Heads:
Ported/Polished Heads
JWT S7 Cams
BC Valve Springs

Exhaust:
Bassani True Dual Catback
Kinetix HFC's (Replacing with ART Testpipes)
Strup Headers (Thermo/ceramic coated)

NEW!
Tranny/Gearing:
ACT Streetlite Flywheel
4.083 Final Drive

Tuning:
UpRev Osiris Tuner

Misc:
UR Lightweight Pulleys
NGK Iridium Plugs

Update 2/27/11
When I first started this thread I was uncertain about what parts to use on my build, light weight flywheel, cams, final drive, headers, etc. I read more and more about these factors and how they could affect the outcome of the build and get better numbers/results.

I have a few pics on hand so far. I have more on my phone but I need to upload them.
But if anyone has input please share, I'm up for suggestions and ideas that might work for me

Tony

I'd go with the S7Rs. They should stretch out nicely, but you need a header to optimize them. A custom shorty setup (or possibly Nismo headers) w/ ART pipes would hit 290-295 easily.

I'm really turned off by headers. I might do headers if they were not loud and raspy. what's the best sounding header you know of that keeps a low profile?

Wouldnt mind pushing the redline to 7.5k -8k but I'm uncertain if I should even rev it that high on mild cams.
I'd upgrade the valve springs and get some JWT or equivalent when you want to push above 7k RPM you wanna make sure it snaps back properly as well as if you go cam factor in shimming and a valve job to reseat the valves. I plan on doing a similar build in the next few months, a lot of factors to consider.

I have Bassani and AAM Hi-Flow Cats. Once I added Strup Headers it did add some rasp. but let me also tell you once I did intake mods (ported polished plenum and mrev2 mod plus spacer,) rasp was nearly gone.

also after I put the nismo cams in there wasn't even a hint of rasp left even at cold startup.

do your self a favor and put some headers on that list or your build is going to lack some high end power.

I promise there is no way your setup will rasp with higher compression and cams.

Yeah I forgot about the JWT HD Springs thanks for bringing that up!

kacz07 did you ever figured out your low rpm problem?

Really? by pnp'd plenum you mean the stock upper plenum or the MREV2? I have the MREV2 and spacer combo already so what else do you suggest with this setup to eliminate rasp if I choose to go with headers?

Also do you have a vid or sound clip? im really intrigued by this now

I have some bad sounds clips posted here
http://g35driver.com/forums/dfw-g35-...d-finally.html

and here is information on my ported/polished plenum
http://g35driver.com/forums/intake-e...-assembly.html

I cut down the front two runners like mrev2

there is nothing else you need to do to get rid of rasp.
if you do this build you will not have rasp.
in fact If I were you, Id cancel the Hi-flow cats and get some ART pipes. thats what I'm about to do.

This info changes everything. As far as the ART test pipes Ill wait and see how they sound on you car first. I'm iffy on TP's as well.
Do you have a Page of your build on either g35driver or here?

I don't have everything consolidated yet.

I'm getting everything together for my N/A build, I think all thats left is bearings and that depends on what needs to be done to my crank. but really it all depends on finding a good machine shop around here to bore my block, and rotate the bottom end to at least 8000

just put ART pipes on my buddies G, he also got the TDX exhaust and it sounds pretty dang good. no other mods to his engine.

Thats a nice list dude. The HR springs are rated past 7500rpms?
and youre building a Non Revup right?

yeah they have to be rated past it since the HR rev's to 7500 already.

no-rev is correct. unless I can figure out how to get a revup to work in mine.

Anything is possible only limiting factor is $$$, but its hard due to the VVT on the Rev-Up. (To my best recollection of this) The non rev ECU is V1 and REV-Up is V2 and HR is V3 they are not interchangeable.

V2 has extra sensors for the valves and V3 has an extra throttle body.

I'm sure you could map out the wires and hack something together but its a challenge on its own.

damn dude those are some nice audio clips. And thats with the strup headers and HFC's? Do you have really bad drone while cruising? I know when I had injen exhaust on my 03 it had the WORST drone imaginable in 5th or 6th gear, gave me headaches

As Far as the HR valve springs, how much do they run new from nissan vs aftermarket springs?

no drone, it sounds great all around. I need to do some more clips from inside and drive by.

yes, thats with the strup headers and AAM HFC, and of course the second one is with cams added.

HR valve springs are cheaper than most aftermarket ones. I think they are the same ones JWT uses in their kit.

Thats a dream right there not to have drone and to have a full exhaust! yeah you need to get some more clips soon or either Ill come down and hear it in person. If you decide to ditch the HFC's let me know, I'll pick em up from you for a decent price Do you know when the HR valve springs max out?

I think it's tuning. Just need to rev it out and keep the rpms above 2.5k for daily driving purposes until then. I don't mind going fast so it works out.

I have Berk HFCs if you're interested. Been trying to sell them for a little.

Coo. Yeah that's what I figured my be it for those springs. I planned to rev around 7500 myself but wanted some room for error you know...
