Default Finally!!

Well, after 6 hours of fighting the dealers yesterday, I finally got my Z!! They didnt have the car I wanted on the lot, and I didnt want the car for a few months anyways (snow), so I had them place my order for a 2006 Daytona Blue Enthusiest 6MT. I was able to take out an Interlagos Fire 6MT that they had on the lot. It was a fun time driving a manual transmission for the first "real" time. I was a little nervous driving the car (I have driven the 5AT a few times before) plus having the sales person in the car with me didnt help much either. The exit from the dealership just happened to be on a nice incline which didnt help matters. I stalled it .

I didnt have any problems after that, except for keeping it under the speed limit. A few times I glanced down, I noticed that I was going 65 in a 35. Thank goodness for the digital speedo, I didnt even use the analog one. The only other problem that I had was getting into 2nd. The dealer told me that I was letting off the cluth too fast which was causing the jerky shifts. I guess that will all come with practice. This car is an absolute blast to drive. The car has power in any gear. I loved cruising down the windy roads and just hearing the engine purr. I did see on one turn the 'SLIP' light came on. I didnt feel any of the tires break traction and I wasnt taking it that fast. Not sure what that was caused from.

I was very glad to get the car for the price I was hoping for. Great dealers to work with. If anyone from the Pittsburgh area is looking, check out West Hills Nissan. Now the real fun begins...waiting 60-90 days I cannot wait for this car to get here!! It truely is bliss on wheels.

Oh, and Davidv, I know I know...it doesnt count until the keys are in my hands But they are coming!!!

Glad that you enjoyed the test drive. Yes it is an impressive car.

It doesn't count until...never mind...you said that.

hahahah...awesome!!! Yeah I know alll about those 2nd gear jerkyness. Its all about mastering that grabby clutch! I swear on Sundays I can't drive that well. My 1-2 and 2-3 shifts just jerk me around. Congrats on your order. The wait will be worth it. Your car will be sarran wrapped....0-5 miles on the odo...etc etc. You better be at the dealer when it arrives snapping pics as they get it off the truck.

Here is a break down of the cost: (note, that I payed a little more for the car than I was hoping for, but they did give me an extra $500 for my trade-in, when all of the other dealers were only going to give me $1500 for it).

Price of vehicle: 28453
Price after taxes, fees, etc: 30227
Trade-in: 2000
Deposit: 500

Invoice was $28,053, so I payed 300 over. But remember, I was able to get more for my trade-in. Every dealer that I went to (Nissan or not) was only going to give me $1500 for my Camaro. So, for them to give me an extra 500 for it made a difference.

On a side note, the dealer called me today and said that they could get me the car this week!! BUT, it is located in MD, and they would have someone drive it up here. I told them "no thanks". As much as I would love to have the car now, I dont want someone putting on all those miles (approx 250 miles), and I do not want to be driving the car on the stock tires in the snow. I dont mind waiting a few months to get it, even though its killing me. Thanks again for all of the help guys. You have helped me make the right decision by answering all of my questions and helping me learn A LOT about this car. Thanks!

The waiting does suck...and don't let them tease you with 60-90 days. I think it is safe to assume you will wait the full 90 days. Just from my recent experience and reading for 1 or 2 others on here who recently ordered/purchased...90 days seems normal.

I also know what you mean on the jerk-shifting from 1-2..It took me about 750-1000 miles to really get it smooth. If the car is cold it might be a little more difficult to get into 2nd as well..just fyi.

Congrats!

Maybe your dealer will split the cost of a flatbed to go get the MD car?

You could flatbed it home too.....

Well, I just found out that the car is in Richmond, VA, not MD. I had the sales mgr call down to verify that there are no holes drilled in the front bumper (not sure if VA requires that or not). What do you guys think about having 300 miles on the car in order to get it a few months early? I really dont mind as long as there are no chips in the paint. They said the car just arrived there (VA) on Friday, so no one has driven it yet. Hmmm, decisions decisions...

If they can do it on a flat bed....DO IT. Don't pay extra for it...dealer should be willing to to pay the costs since they will get your money sooner than 3 months from now. But that just me..I don't care much about having it come directly from the factory with zero miles. Someone has to test drive the car time to time. As far as them driving it up 300 miles....don't. I know if I was driving that car I'd go a lil fast just for grins and giggles.

As far as snow..well..do you really have snow around your area? I guess I am trying to compare your place to the philly and nearby suburb areas, but I am sure you are much colder. I drove my car a few days after it snowed here (the snow all melted). It is okay to drive the car in cold weather assuming the roads are dry even though the stock tires aren't great for winter. Just keep your foot easy on the gas everything is 'A' okay

BTW...does this mean you will get a new username? LoL

Thanks for the advice. I'm waiting to hear back from them about the car still. Its 350 miles from Richmond to Pittsburgh. They said that its a retired guy who drives the cars, not some 18 year old. I'll check into the flat bed option. And we did get some snow today. Its been a VERY mild winter until this point. It really hasnt stuck much on the roads, but there is a thin layer right now. Its supposed to be rainy and in the 30's the rest of the week. The 300 miles really doesnt bother me, thats only about 2 weeks worth of driving.

I'll check into the username thing, but I might just leave it as is.

But its the FIRST 350 miles...I would want to do those miles myself, and
especially when road conditions were "iffy"...

I vote for flatbed...you might still have to wait two months to drive it,
but you will at least have a Z in the garage...

haha..I was kidding about the username. Yeah..the 2 weeks of not being able to drive are gonna be murder. Hell..I can bearly wait for Friday to drive my car! Yeah..on second thought...just wait the 90 days...just hold on to your money and put into the bank to gain some interest. It will be more worth while and you will have fun pulling all the plastic wrap off the car if they haven't done so already. What options did you go for from the factory?

I decided to wait the 90 days. I dont want someone putting those miles on the car, this is the reason why I am paying all of the money for a NEW car. I am going to have them check to see if anything is currently getting shipped over that they can grab and get for me. Either way, I'll be waiting 1-3 months. I have been waiting for years to get this chance to get a new car, I'm sure I can wait a few more months

I decided on getting the following options:
splash guards, aluminum door sills, floor mats, and trunk mat.

I didnt want the cargo convenience package because I dont think i'll ever need the behind the seat thing, and the cargo net. And I should be fine w/o the side airbags. Watch, now that I say that, I'm going to get side-swipped and smash my head off the side window Oh well, I'll be fine. Now I just need to make sure that my dealer places my order at the beginning of March!
