Default Price difference btwn ordering car and one in stock

Is there any price differences? No dealership has a White Track model in stock, so the best price I got was $200 over invoice to order the car. I know plenty of people can get the car under invoice if it's in stock. Anyone have similar experiences?

200 over invoice is a good price, just take it.

Well, its that or getting a car below invoice. I got mine almost 900 below invoice (car was at the lot).

$200 over invoice is great price though someone will have always done better.

Personally, I think it is better to get precisely what you want than saving a few bucks.

Always look at the markup as a percentage of invoice, not a set amount...that doesn't explain much. 1-3% above invoice is a general rule of thumb; but of course the lower the better.

If you really want to haggle, I don't believe in paying anything above invoice for special orders. Read the last post on this page: https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2009-nissan-350z/171682-is-350z-the-best-selling-sport-cars-in-us.html

Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, and another thing -

Let's say you're supposedly getting UNDER invoice or very close to invoice on a new car.

Well, if you're doing a trade-in with the dealer, I hate to break this to you but you're most likely getting screwed on the trade-in. Show me someone who got under invoice on a brand new 350Z *without* a trade-in, and I'll show you someone who *actually* got a great deal (not just sounding good on paper).

I am very happy I sold my old Maxima through a private party. The guy was great to deal with, everything went smoothly, I got exactly the price I wanted (which was like $2k-2.5k more than trade-in), and I still got my 350Z for only $500 over invoice, all-cash deal. It was definitely a great deal IMO.

All good points. There are numerous ways for a dealership to make it seem like you are getting a better deal then you really are. SHowing you less for a trade, raising the price of an extended warranty, charging you more then buy rate, etc. As someone that has over 4 years experience working at dealerships, there are some of the deals I have seen on here that are quite unrealistic (I have seen over 1K less then net net invoice). Something is up with that (preowned, demo, etc.). Anyway, great points.

That's what really matters on the deal. If you are happy with it, and like the car you are getting, then you got a good deal. Obviously, it's hard to really know on this end if you got a good deal on your trade or not, as payoff really has no relevance on the ACV of your trade.

I am getting $18,500 trade in on my Acura. IT has 13,000 miles excellent condition except for a few small rock chips on the front bumper. I was happy with it considering another dealer only offered me $17500 for trade in

Looking real quick online (and not the black book), seems like you did well on your deal IMO.

I agree. The dealer may let a Base go for invoice plus $200, but maybe not the Touring. Sometimes figuring out invoice is not so easy. What is the invoice on a navigation system or cargo carrying net?

Edmunds to the rescue! Helped me figure out invoice for my GTc to the last dime.

Thing is, dealers know customers can find out the invoice, so they are willing to go well below the MSRP, but use holdback as the real money-making tool as customer rarely know about it. So if they can move a car quickly by agreeing to 0.5% above invoice, it is better than loosing all 2% of the holdback by letting the car sit in the lot for 90 days.
