Smile 2005 Touring 350Z!!

Guys/Gals,

I just bought my first sports car ever. First rear wheel drive, first two seater. Before it, I was driving a 98 Altima! Ha! So needless to say, I am so excited to drive this car, sadly, I haven't done much research on how reliable the car is, or anything like recalls just from the few I have read on the site.

Are there any anomalies I should know about my Z or be aware of that other 2005 owners have noticed or experience?? Few basics on the car, it is a 2005 Touring based with 16000 K miles.

Any info would be nice. Thanks all!!

New Z owner, and loving it.

Read your manual.

If your not use to RWD cars, be careful if wet/slick road conditions; it is easy to break loose the rear tires. Slow smooth transitions when shifting and light on the gas pedal.

Thanks all! I am having a blast with it! Can't seem to go fast enough without getting a ticket...and since my license is suspended right now, I can't afford to get caught. All in all, what a great car!

Next on my list is to get a great sound system in the car. The stereo in it now sucks. Does anyone know what size the subwoofer (if it is a subwoofer) is behind the driver's seat? It looks like an 8", and if it is, would a 10 or 12 fit? Without sacrificing the spare tire and trunk space (what little it has) how has some been able to put in a pair of 12's? Or did you all go smaller? I was thinking of the 10's Kicker Solo-baric woofers with Fosgate amps. Any thoughts or plans on a kicking stereo system?

Congrats on the new Z! From what I read on the board and my personal experience with my '05, it seems the '05 model has the least problems. Some "03 and '04's have tire feathering and transmission problems, and some '06 have oil consumption problems. Re. my '05, my only "problem" was not being able to fill up with gas without the pump stopping every 3 seconds. That was fixed under warranty.
Re. your stereo question, if you haven't looked already, check out the tech section under "Forums". The have a whole area for stereo's etc.
Enjoy!

Do you mind if I ask what you paid for it? I am considering a similar buy .

congrats on the car, but you might want to not be driving around on a suspended license like that. take it from me, ive had personal experience with this. mine got suspended and i was young and scoffed at the law and drove anyway. well many dollars and 2 years later, i got my license back, trust me man, it isn't worth the risk.

25K and I got the dealer to throw in 2 years worth of oil change and 6 years of warranty (at cost they say, but I think I got hooked). I am glad to hear that the 05 model has the least problems. Without really doing too much homework, I guess I got a good deal.

Regarding my license, it's just a matter of paying this bill, and reissuing my license. Shouldn't be a biggie. I actually got that in the mail that needs to get paid before a certain date. Or else, says VA. I believe them.

Hey, does anyone ever notice that the windows when you open the door lower like less than half an inch and then when you close the door, it raises back up? Why is that? I can't seem to figure out why, although I am sure there is a very good explanation for it. Just seemed strange every time I closed the door, I'd hear a what I thought was a decompression sound. Ha! I was like, Cool! Hi-tech.

I hear ya Jim. Already taken care of, at least in the works. But man, it is kind of hard to get around when you got a bus pass in one hand, and a set of 350Z keys in the other. Needless to say, it is good vs evil. Mass transportation being evil, or at the very least, very damaging to ones social life.

Hey Blu, was that due to your O2 sensor going bad or something like that? I know my old Altima had the pumping problem which was soooooo anoying yet, I let it ride for nearly 4 years. Man, but after a while, not only did I build patience, I also learned a science and began to know which pumps actually pumped faster in my car. During winter time though, that was the worst. With this little problem, you have to be outside holding the pump and gently squeezing the pump as to not pump too fast, but just fast enough for the trapped air to flow back out the same spot. Very tricky. I finally had that fixed because of emissions, but then after nearly spending 1k on getting it all fixed among other things, I said the hell with it, let me just get a Z.

I have the pearl white one Touring style. The leather is actually pretty cool scheme. Ha, just the other day, when you open the doors, you can see a Z meshed on the inside of the door where the air flows out. My friend caught that....I never knew. I was like, Neat.

its the windows sealing. they lower to give the glass clearance when you open the door, when you close it, they go back up and seal tight to keep out wind noise/water/etc.

on a side note, Nissan could've done a better job with some freaking rain gutters over the windows. every time it rains or i wash the car and open the door, water drips all over the seat/interior. i guess that would've hurt the drag coefficient though.......*shrugs*
