New Z owner. Questions and comments.
Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I just bought an 05 350z. It's the newest car I've owned, and it looks killer. I've always liked the new Z, it looks very sleek. The only thing that I've found is the after market for it is a killer, especially because I don't really see all motor as an option for this car. From what I have read, they aren't really responsive to NA mods. I was reading the FI forums and it looks like people are saying it costs about 6-8k for a set up that's good to 400 or so WHP. That seems like a lot for a relitively small amount of whp.
I've seen kits out there for like 4k, but I was wondering how many people just put there kits together, and were is a good place for those wanting to piece together there own kits should go. I looked on here for a classifieds section, but I didn't see one, or maybe I missed it. I turboed my integra with a turbonetics kit, and my buddy just bought everything he needed and saved a lot of $$$, and I decided I'm never buying a kit again.
In the meantime untill I get FI, I was wanting to know what mods to do before hand kinda prepping untill the FI comes. I don't know as much as I need to know about the VQ engines (since my Acura is the only thing I've ever worked on) but I'm learning. I was thinking for first mods on this exhaust, lighter wheels, lightwieght flywheel/ clutch Drop in K&N (no use in getting a CAI). Now on this car, I was wondering if it can be tuned any better than it is in stock form? If I can remember correctly, and I'm not sure I am, the Acura RSX-S can be tuned stock and they can get a decent amount of power out of it like that. I was wondering if this was maybe close to the same way? It seems to me that this motor starts out strong on the low end, but tapers out higher in the rpm range. I was wondering if that may be helpable with a tune and opening up the exhaust a little, or if there is a better time to shift than at redline like on the EVO?
I may just be expecting to much much out of the higher end. I guess I got spoiled by my integra and getting that instant Jolt of torque and horsepower. Anyhow, I know this was long, and if you took the time to read it and answer some of the stuff on here, I thank you. Ramsey.

Welcome Ramsey. Good luck with your Z and you are going to love this site. As mentioned, check and post in the appropriate sub-forums. It will be more likely that someone who has the expertise for you questions will check posts there rather than the 'new owner' threads. This will also show up under 'new posts', but that has so much activity, the thread will soon be lost if not responded to within about an hour.
Enjoy your newest car.
Enjoy your newest car.
