Hey guys. I don't drive a Z, but a friend on this board referred me here.. I've done a bit of work on these cars and I really like the potential these cars have when running boost.. As for my car- I drive an '05 STi with a GT35R setup.. Just about everything is custom done by myself or my dude Matt@Slickmotorsports who does all of the fab.. Looking forward to learning more about the boost potential of the 350Z and trying to talk my buddy into that large single turbo kit..
Here are some pics

What all do you have on your STi that increases the hp by nearly 205 hp? To 500hp thats pushed to the limit, what stops it from blowing. You obviously got it figured out did you tune it yourself? What king of 0-60 time do you get and whats your quater mile time? I can't tell what all you have on it but Nitrious, Turbo and a Super Charger. What do you do with that monster drag race it or auto cross it or show it?
Now thats a real sleeper.

Haha.. Thanks guys.. That whole SC/Nitrous thing was pretty funny.. It's just a turbo..lol..
Ok- for those that are interested:
I had a GT30R last year that was tuned to 405whp 421wtq on a very low reading Mustang dyno. That was at 24psi on 100octane. That setup ran an 11.70@124mph. The ET was a bit slow because of the STi's short gears, but the trap was very good. I was at 6k in 5th when I crossed the line. I decided to re-build that motor with forged rods and pistons as well as new bearings, because the stock blocks arent too reliable above 400whp.. That motor was ready early this past summer, but spun a rod bearing on the dyno..
I only got 740 miles out of it and no boost.. Come to find out, a few of my buddies had similar motor builds and spun bearings as well.. No one knows why, but we all used race bearings which are much harder than stock.. The current motor I built with OEM bearings and it's been running for over 2500 miles.. So, hopefully this one stays together.. That said, here is the setup...
Block-
New OEM crank
New OEM rod and main bearings
Manley Turbo Tuff I-beam rods
Wiseco forged pistons with Swain Tech coating
Turbo setup-
GT35R .82 a/r
Tial 44 external gate with dumptube
Perrin rotated down and up-pipe
Perrin equal length manifold
Perrin V2 fuel rails
HKS 3" catback
Turbo XS FMIC
Mocal external oil cooler
Helix 860cc injectors
Supra fuel pump
4" turbo inlet with HKS filter
Custom blow-through MAF setup
NGK iridiums
Tial BOV
Drivetrain-
Exedy Twin disk and flywheel
Kartboy rear stay and shifter bushings
Cusco tranny mount
Electronics
Apex-i AVCR
COBB StreetTUNER engine management tuned by Tim Bailey of Surgeline tuning (soon to be AEM EMS when it comes out)
Suspension-
Tein Flex coilovers
Hotchkiss F&R sways with endlinks

Thanks for the compliments guys..
The Z and the STi are 2 very different cars.. As far as king of the road, I think the EVO has that pretty much won.. Those cars can run 11's on a stock turbo with a few mods and good tune.. The Z just doesn't seem like much of a street race type car in stock form.. At least that's the impression I got when I drove my buddies.. BUT, I think the boost potential is awesome.. It takes less than 10psi for a decent turbo to make awesome power on stock compression.. Are any of you guys dropping compression and running some high boost?? I'd really like to see the outcome of that..
13secZ- The green is a sweet setup.. Defiantly the best stock location turbo to run.. Just for dyno reference: the STi with a green makes about 360whp on 93 octane with a good tune on the dyno I use.. (Tim Bailey from PDX as the tuner) Our dyno is a REAL heartbreaker...

^^^ I hear ya.. My buddy has an '02 WRX than ran a 13.60 with a 1.9 60'. He only had a manual boost controller and an STi up-pipe!! That's insane.. Most stock STi's will be lucky to run 13.60's with 300 chp out of the box.. That car was a freak..
Do you still have the car??

nice Sti man. Always been a fan of the GT35R set-up. Most responsive (with right tuning and components of course), imo. I miss my '04 Sti myself, but since i was working for MItsubishi, I have to admit, i was under pressure and ended up getting an '03 GSR, then my last one before my NISMO Z was an Evo VIII MR. Loved those cars, but with the Z, it's a whole new ball game. As a car enthusiast, it's all about respect on the black top. It dosen't matter what you drive, but how you're attitude is. Nowadays, people would kill just to have four-wheels and a steering wheel.
But then again, nice pics.

i appreciate that. my brother posted rolling shots on here somewhere on the media share forum (comments welcome) we did on the freeway. hope you like'em. i know, i was sold on the red one, since it matches the interior. but when i saw the pearl white, i was overwhelmed and didn't think twice. after all, 2 red evo's is enough for me and it's time for a change.

Very impressive mods and mechanic work for a DIYer, very impressive and awesome output that thing will smoke a stock vette or turbo porsche for 1/3 the price again very impressive. It will outrun a new Evo with no problem but I guess near the same mods its a toss up pending driver?
You are right the 350Z is a different type car, like you mentioned I think its on line with the porsche boxster not street racer fast but more of a fashsion statement (not the same as a Porsche of course) but a tradition. My 280ZX I kept 11 years, my Z31 I kept 8 year (owned ZX and Z31 at the same time) and Z32 I kept 5 years. Never had any serious engine work done to them except expensive a$$ ignition module fro ZX that datsun wanted $290 for, that I found at the junk yard for $75 and drove it another 5 years. I got compliments on all of them from cops even.
Your STi is nice and powerful but unless you can do magic like you can with a socket wrench, its not the car for most Sport car people. Stock its nice but too ricer looking, (but practicle as hell awd and all) imo. Subrau really has made the STOCK 4 clylinder turbos reliable, which at one time were maintenance hogs. Subrau has done the same thing for its turbo chargered cars that Kimber did for the stock 1911.
