Default To rev-up or not to rev-up, that is the question

I've read through the 06 OC threads and frankly it really worries me. From reading that you get the (mistaken) impression that all the rev-ups might as well have an 1/2" hole in their oil pan. Many of those that have had the engine replaced with the V2 also seem to be having problems. I know that posters in that thread are the ones that have had problems but it sure skews my perceptions.

There are some very nice '06 and '05 Anniv for sale out there now. I'm just worried about buying the rev-up engine. Because of that I've been looking at '04.5- '05s and '07s. I'd rather not spend as much as the '07s.

So, any thoughts from folks who own the rev-up? Are they really going to be as much of a problem as I'm fearing? Also, from reading the FAQs, it looks like their are differences as far as simple bolt-on mods. What engine will give me the best value over time?

I don't think the problem is quite as widespread as people may have you believing. I have an 06 rev-up and hve had NO ISSUES what so ever. But I would at the very least be careful and look into what your buying.

The automatic 06's are not rev-up correct? They should be free of the oil consumption problems?

Correct. The problem is I want a MT not an AT.

BTW, I feel like an idiot as I just found a thread with the same title in another section.

Go HR!

I have an 06 6MT and it had oil consumption issues. I had a complete long block replacement at 20k, not many problems with the dealer either. I have 23k now and no issues. Some dealers are more OC friendly than others. If you are buying your car at a dealer then I suggest you bring that up before you buy it and get the service manager in the room with you. Good luck.

If you can afford one get an HR. However if you are like me and can't then just get a DE which are still amazing engines.

It is a matter of how much I want to, or can justify spending. Either way it will be a cash deal so I don't have to worry about financing it. I like the idea of buying an older car that has depreciated a lot more than an '07 will have. OTOH, there are some features of the '07 that I do kind of like. It will come down to finding what is the best deal in a color that I like most likely.

If you're after a slightly older one to avoid the massive depreciation, perhaps try a 2005.

Yeah, I've been looking hard at the '05s and that is probably the best option for me unless I find a really good deal on an '07. There are a fair number of '05s on the market right now. It may seem stupid, but I do like the touring trim, but really don't like the cassette deck as part of the Bose package in the 05's.

Terrible to so many options.

Haha, yeah goodness knows what they were thinking putting a cassette deck in, I mean this isn't exactly 1980 something, reckon it's more like a gap filler.
