Default New to the scene but...

Hey all!

I just bought my new (to me) 2003 350Z Performance. Had a total of 38,800 miles on it. Seemed pretty low till I read what some others were posting for their numbers but whatever, not a big concern for me. I should also mention I paid 14.500 for it, which being near Chicago seemed to make good sense.

I'd pleased to say that I love the car, it makes driving fun and puts a stupid grin on my face every ride I get, I'm sure it'll be something that will last for years to come.

As of now, I'm not prepared to mod it beyond it's stock status. The only thing that isn't stock is the shifter **** (came with the car). In the future I would love to do more with it, but till that time, I'll be digging into the community here for knowledge and know-how.

I made some foolish mistakes when purchasing the car, however I'm prepared to own up to those mistakes considering this is the car dreams are made of and is exactly what I wanted. Back to the point though, I've read (though very little) about a high rpm idle? To be perfectly honest, I have no experience with this type of car so when I purchased it, i assumed a just-under 1,200 RPM was normal (and i assume it is). That doesn't concern me so much as the typical cruising rpm. This thing never seems to go below 2k, It does but not unless it's a low speed in a high gear. I'm finding it common to be in 6th gear whilst going 45-50 mph in an attempt to keep the RPMs at about 2-2.5K. This seems odd to me, and I would really like to know what others are experiencing.

I'd mention a few other things, but it just dawned on me that I have a search button (forgive me, it's quite late here). Nothing seems to be too serious, if only to mention when shifting into first, you can kind of feel the clutch grabbing gear through the pedal, it feels like a semi-slow fan blade might hitting your finger (though ever so slightly), and what i mean is that it isn't a smooth shift as I would expect on any other typical manual car. Also 2nd and 3rd seems to get grabbed and the car thrusts with an extra 1,000 rpm jolting you forward. I'm pretty sure I'm just not used to shifting with the car yet and thus haven't gotten proficient, but I'd rather mention something then find I have a serious mechanical issue.

Well to finish, I'm extremely excited to be apart of the Z community. I'm looking forward to knowing more about the car and picking everyone's brain. I'd share more, but I'm sure you've all heard enough! Can't wait for morning to come so I can drive!

Hey all, just wanted to report that it seemed to be user error. It's amazing what a little reading can do for you.

In any case I'm taking a long trip from chicago to seattle in it, and I'm quite worried about the potential for snow and ice as I head in that direction. The car Being what it is, makes me rather nervous. Does anyone have any tips (or quick links?) for me when taking it on both a long trip and a potentially snowy / icy drive?

Welcome and congratulations.

Reasonable cruising RPM? Wherever you feel comfortable.
