that would teach you a valuable lesson not to buy a car you can not drive properly. maybe you should have bought an automatic or daddy should have taught you to drive a manual shift car.

As soon as a girl ask a question, all you guy's care about is what she looks like. This is not match.com answer her question the best you can, that's it. U guys scare off all the girls with this crap!. U wouldn't give a second thought if a guy ask that question, and I am sure U don't need a pic of said person to help them learn how to shift. Go out side there are a lot of girls out there.(you can put on your polo shirt and try to impress) this is a car forum where people go to ask/learn about a specific model of car......................... try match revving the clutch and gas to find the sweet spot. the trans has synchros witch bump up the RPM's when changing gears so it's harder to stall. it's not the easiest stick out there, the stock clutch can take a lot abuse. anybody who owns a manual had to learn first, miss shifting/grinding gears/stalling is all a part of it, and before you know it, It's second nature.

She should know how to drive a car before she buys it.

In for pics as well.

Go to an empty flat street and do this:

1. Do NOT use the gas pedal at all.
2. Hold the clutch in, and put the car in 1st gear.
3. VERY VERY slowly: release the clutch, and allow the idle to get the car rolling. You will feel the car vibrate slightly, don't let the clutch go too fast, it will not stall so long as you are letting the pedal out VERY slowly.
4. (Still using no gas pedal) Depress the clutch, and place the shifter into 2nd gear. Once again using no gas, allow the idle to take the car into 2nd gear as you VERY slowly release the clutch pedal.
5. Repeat similarly for gears 3 through 6.
6. Continue going from a dead stop through gears 1 through 6 while applying no gas. The idle will do the work.

You will learn your clutch this way, and where it's "grabbing point" is at. If you do this enough you will become proficient with your car's clutch use. After a few months you should be more adept, and be trying to learn more advanced driving techniques.

This is exactly correct, and IMO the best way to learn the sweet spot on your stick. Thank you for finally answering her question

Some of the rest of you, seriously... relax about learning stick on a brand new car. Everyone has to learn somewhere, and if her situation is anything like mine, not a single person i know drives a stick. Cut her some slack for at least trying to learn.

Just gas it to about 1.5-2000 rpms and slowly let go of the clutch while you are adding gas. Just practice and you'll get better. The 350z was also my first manual car. I wanted to trade it in for an automatic in the beginning, but I knew that I'd regret it. Just keep on practicing.
Hey, read your thread like you suggested... you definitely got some great responses! Thanks again for the tip, i'll probably check it again later

Welcome to my350z.com .

Anyway, to the girl in this thread- two things:

1. do me a personal favor and don't put swarovski crystals on your car, no matter how cute you think it looks.

2. Learn how to drive the car with a friend who is familiar with manual transmissions. You may get it going in gear but you also may be wearing the clutch out with improper technique. Clutch replacements aren't cheap and a little push in the right direction goes a long way toward keeping the car healthy in the long term.
