Hey everyone I'm new to this site and to 350Z's in general but I've heard a lot about them and I'm really interested in buying one. I'm not rich or anything but I have enough money to afford one, probably used of course. Before I start making offers on cars or anything what should I be looking for and what's the best model/year? What are the downsides and upsides of owning a Nissan 350z? Is there anything I should keep in mind when searching for cars? Study the various models and decide which best suits your needs.

Use care buying a modified car. The car may have mods that you like now, but may hate in 6 months. This Z, for example, is all show and no go.

The Z has no performance mods just a lot of fibreglass.

 

Is there any downsides to a lot of fibreglass? As you can tell I don't know much about 350Z's or even any sports cars in general.

Car looks ok to me, its got a lot of exterior mods... most of which i like. Stock performance is plenty for someone like me, so i think the car is fine.

 

It looks like the guy spent a lot of money on visual mods. Most mods add little to no money to the value of the car so you really should not pay more for this one versus other 03s with 50k miles. Unless you are just in love with the body kit of course.

I would be hesitant to buy a modded car. If the body has been modded then it is more than likely not done to the same taste as mine. If the engine had been modded then there is probably a good reason the person wants more power. Because they use it!

I would personally keep looking for a stock one. That way you can do what you want to it. Make it more personal to you.

 

Its neither good or bad. It just is. If you buy a modified car, you are buying someone else's tastes - not yours. I would prefer to start with a clean (stock) slate.

 

I dont think its a bad deal. Its already got plenty of stuff done to it (which since your on a tight budget will save you cash). Just get it looked at by a shop and drive it around, make sure its running good. A 03 under 50k miles with nav for 15k already moded doesnt sound like a bad deal to me. You can probably get him down to 14,000. Also think about davidv's advice, its all about your personal preference. I like buying a good stock car and modding it myself.

I saw you were looking at a couple of 06 models in the marketplace. I didn't want to **** on their thread, so I will tell you here. There is no way in hell I would pay what they are asking for those cars! I paid right at $20k for my '06 Grand Touring with only 16k miles back in December. And mine is in as nice or nice shape than those.

 

Where's a good place to find good deals?

 

Just be patient and look around. There is always autotrader.com, vehix.com, eBay, the local newspaper, craigslist, etc.

I found my Z at a Jeep dealership and they thought it was a base and priced it that way. I got an 04 G last month in perfect shape with 37k miles for $13,400 from an individual. I drove from NC to DC for that one.

A good deal can be anywhere. Just don't go out and buy something because you want a Z today and won't wait. You will find a nice one. Good luck!
