Default Just bought my first 350Z!

Hi Guys, just joined my350z.com! Just bought myself a 2003 350Z... picking it up this weekend! Can't wait. It's completely standard at the moment, but I was thinking about installing 2 mods in the coming months:

- K&N Typhoon CAI
- Nismo CAT-back exhaust system

Just looking for some opinions on whether these are good choices, or if there are better options out there? Looking for a good engine note for relatively good value for money.

Cheers guys,

If the Nismo is so quiet, what would you recommend? Because I heard something about removing the muffler...?

depends how loud you want it. HKS, Agency Power, Greddy make good looking and sounding exhausts.

Search more in the exhaust section and compare whatever appeals to you.

Can anyone please advise me on whether it is a good idea to remove the muffler from the stock exhaust to improve the noise or not?

I would recommend buying an actual exhaust system as opposed to removing the muffler. It will sound a lot better and may give better performance.

Yeah, I know what you mean... do you have any recommendations on what exhaust to get that is good value for money and provides a nice deep sound? Not too bothered about HP gains... thanks!

Best bet is to goto Youtube and type in "350Z exhaust" and "350Z driveby", because most people will put the details of their exhaust setup in their comments. This was how I selected my exhaust, because changing the exhaust is much more about the sound than it is about improving any noticable power.

Everyone's ear is different, but here is how they sound to me:

If you like somewhat quiet or stock-like sound, I would put the stock exhaust, nismo, borla, and stillen all into that category.

If you like a deep rumble, pick a true dual with resonated test pipes. I would put the HKS, HKS replicas (like X02, Truespeed, etc), Greddy TiC Dual, Motordyne Shockwave, and most other true duals with a reasonable diameter pipe in this category.

If you want a loud higher pitch exhaust that screams at WOT, pick up one of the single exhausts with long tube headers that are more like a straight pipe.

Congrats and welcome! I recently got my z about 5 months ago.

It made sense for me to help my car breathe better - since I knew I was going to be saving for a few months for bigger parts in the mean time. These 3 were prime for me (on a budget wise):

- Intake (be it CAI or Pop Charger)if you have some money. OR if you are really strapped, use the original z tube and just pop in a K&N filter.
- MD Plenum spacer.
- Lowering springs because you don't want to look like a spaceship.

I got lucky with these mods and bought my parts practically brand new, spending only a little over $300. And I just scored some Crawford HFC's for $150! I just seem to run into deals left and right. Good luck!
