I'm being converted to a Z owner..
Hello! I'm a college student and am planning to get rid of my 1998 3000GT SOHC (non turbo, 5 speed, intake, exhaust, wheels, sound system) after driving it for 4 years. It's unfortunate, but it has a never ending oil leak that continues after I fixed the leaking crank seal. I bought it stock and will miss it dearly.
But now it's time for a serious car.. i've always loved the lines of the 350z, and the stock exhaust note is really soft and sexy. I will be going from 161hp to 287hp and RWD rather than FWD, which is much more desirable to me.
I plan to leave it stock unless it already comes with some mods...it already has nearly 300hp and is boy-racer enough for me as I enter professional careers. Furthermore, you can't get very much *noticeable* hp by doing a cat-back and intake ... only adds a few.. cams/headers or forced inductionis where the real power is.
287hp in a ~3200lb car is damn good
That being said, I will only get a manual. Auto is for when i'm disabled.
Currently looking at a couple different black Z's that are in the next state... one is $10k, has a/m exhaust, 98k miles... the other is $11k, stock, 90k miles. I dont think I can get much of a better deal than that, most of them fall around $13-18k
I love these wheels... what do you all call them? The cheaper Z has these They look a bit heavier than the other types...
Speaking of weight... there is a silver convertible 20 minutes away that is only $11k with 85k on it. Amazing deal. But obviously there are issues of cabin comfort temp in winter/summer, and also ~300 lbs of added weight.
I'm wondering why the weight went up in 2003-05 to 2006-08 models? Base model went from 3,188 to 3,339.
Finally, are these motors underrated or overrated from the factory? Around what HP/TQ do these put to the wheels?
Thank you for reading!

Hey,whats with all the concern on the weight?
Get a Z,drive it...enjoy it.The weight differences won't matter.

I guess you're right... i'm just nitpicking just would prefer hard top I think.
I have never ridden in a convertable with top down... but I can only imagine its a blast
I've never even ridden in a Z either ... going to test drive them on Tues!
Hehe, i've been reading through the S vs. Z thread... I put a clutch in an S and drove it around the lot but never got to really drive it . Way too pricey, though. They retain their value like crazy

The later model ones seem to have a few more bits of plastic on the interior which add a tiny bit. Also changes to the engines in the later model, 2005 - 2008 quite a few changes.
OEM. As the OP won't know.

I shouldn't worry too much about the weight as it's all relative unless you're tracking on a regular basis. Basically the older model say 2002-2004 are the lightest models, marginally less hp, but more torque, the later model 2005, 2006, 2007,2008 have a bit more hop, but less torque. So it all evens out.
hehe I wish I could get an HR!!
Goin to look at the car tomorrow, got off of work early

So drove down to Dallas... a few hours away, and looked at a couple of black 2003 Z's. Both of them had mild body damage... dents, dings, scratches. What do you expect for $10k Z? They were worth about 8.
The 2006 that I was eyeing was gone quick. Expected that.
**edit.......... guy didnt even have his title............ tranny felt odd... no go :\
