Love/ hate my first 350
Had a few 240z back in my youth. Kids are grown so a 350 is my mid life crisis ride. Fell in love with this 2003 track model, seemed nice and clean, only 83000 miles ,two owners, drove like a champ. Drove a good bargain because of the 3rd gear synchro is going out but that was in the budget. Now after a few thousand miles my bubble has burst realizing it's burning a quart of oil every 800 friggin miles. Did some searching here and pulled the pcv line looking for oil. Dry as a damn bone. So a catch can probably isn't the answer. I feel ten feet tall tearing around the back roads with the old girl, but the prospect of a motor rebuild is nauseating. what to do , what to do....

To start with, try doing a leakdown test on your VQ to assess its condition. Then determine what steps need to be taken. I'd also suggest changing your gearbox lube and put in 2 1/2 quarts of Redline MT85 before trying anything else.
Here is a pic. Changed to redline synthetic gear oil right after purchase with no effect. Talking to my mechanic about a leakdown test. Some jackass pulled out in front of me today and I stood this thing on its nose. No complaints about the brakes!

Your mechanic is about right, they're your choices, rebuild or sell it, either way it sounds like your gonna lose cash on it. Burning that much oil you must have oil dripping from your exhaust?
No dripping , but a nice little plume rises from the left pipe at idle and any hard driving leaves a nice cloud. Rebuild is not off the table, but part of me wants to take the hit and put the money towards an 07 or 08.
