Default Hello, new Z owner (2) times....

New Z owner.... Please understand I've been domestic all my life... Here is my car....

LOL, purchased two 06 Z's within the past 6 months. I have been in contact with some good people through the sale forums and purchased some nice used items to upgrade his car.

Purchased an 06 MT, white base model for my son. He really enjoys the car! His car was stock with 101K miles. We decided to purchase the UpRev Osiris and play with the tune on the car. He did the factory cruise DIY from the thread and added it to his base model.

I picked up a nice (well used) turbonetics single turbo kit from the board, had the turbo rebuilt, bought upgraded injectors, fuel pump, HKS EVC 6 controller and we are waiting to install after.... well my other project.

After my son's car, I decided to look for myself. I was able to pickup a 06 MT base, white with 80K miles. The car was a Jim Wolf twin turbo, Z1 short block with stage I heads, that had engine damage (no oil pressure, no knocking sound though).

Hoping for something simple, but upon tear down found spun main bearings. No sign of detonation, possible oil starvation due to massive rtv over load during assembly, found rtv through out the oil galleys and in the oil pump.

I've spent the last week at the machine shop prepping parts, waiting for the repair to the block.

I picked up some L19 studs from the market place, a rebuild gasket kit from Z1 motorsports and off to the rebuild.

Rings File fit

Short Blocked with new Revup Oil pump

Pain in the *** timing chains..... Come on.. LOL

Finally have it together and will be putting in car tomorrow, and hopefully have running by the weekend.

Nice to be here, alot of good people, please any thoughts/ ideas to help with my build would be appreciated.

Welcome, looks like they're both in good hands now. Nice to see a rebuild when its done by someone who is more than capable of doing it themselves. Looks like a nice big shop you have there.

Cool, I'll keep the post updated.

Shooting for 400 on my son's stock build, and 600+ on my built one. Fixing some small exhaust things that just bother me, probably little gain but why not do it right if you are going to do it.

Welcome, from a fellow drag racer and past domestic owner. I dig the 3rd gen camaro (Tube chassis I assume?), and props on the Z builds.

Finally got her buttoned up, well actually thought was buttoned up several times.. LOL...

First time didnt see manifold stud hitting inlet housing of turbo and did not seat on manifold which caused a leak with the metal gasket which sounded just like a rod knock.. Only to find out, cannot change manifold while its in the car, these 700BB are much bigger apparently. So out she came again to fix that issue.

Second, faulty thermostat from AUTOZONE of course.. preventive replacing older stock Nissan piece was not the smartest move.

Third, those damn air bubbles in the coolant. I fought this for 3 days... finally decided to vacuum fill the coolant, re vacuum fill the coolant several times to finally get the coolant to work.

Forth, air conditioner lines had holes in them after install.. (my mistake for not checking)

Fifth, power steering line developed a leak... blew all over bottom of car.

Sixth, dang boost hoses keep coming off during boost.. (note to self - tighten hose clamps).

What a cool new owners thread!

Welcome and GL on your build! You also might want to start a thread in the F/I section for boost related problems/solutions on your Z.

WHAAAATTTT.... that thing adds 30 HP.. LOL.. it was on the car when I bought it. I do have different one. Now on to cleaning up the exterior, no stickers, or big wing in its future...

That is the 350Z I bought... My son's will be a single on stock components putting together hopefully this coming weekend.

Thanks for replies.

Default Update......

LOST turbo.....

So Motor is out again... Positive is I can pull motor with tranny in roughly 45-50 min now...

My glass is never half empty.

Turbos were 700bb upgrade from JWT. Purchased in 12/12. Contact JWT, and their statement of cause, without even seeing turbo, was oil starvation. Never even seen the video. But the other turbo is fine, but how do you disprove oil starvation? Motor has less than 450 miles since rebuild, oil changed at 300 miles, no signs of any debris, cut apart filter also...

Well easier to just purchase new CHRA's and move forward.

While motor is out, decided to replace 04 model MT 6 speed with slight lower 1-3 gear whine, with 06 CD009 unit.

Anyone want to buy a car..?
