Making a Mean 350z Deployed
I'm a military police soldier currently deployed in afghanistan with a 03 350z back home waiting for me. I'm wanting to make it one ofthe meanest cars on the road but still a daily driver. I've only done an intake and an underdrive pully kit on it but I'm lookin for upgrade parts that I can have waiting for me when I get home to put it together. Just looking for insight as to what upgrades to get and which ones work well together or upgrades that shouldn't be paired. Thanks y'all

Thank you for your service. I remember those days separated from by car by about 12,000 miles, dreaming about doing things to it when I got home. Those were the kind of days I am happy to forget.

Whats your budget? Also,in your mind, what does "one of the meanest cars on the road" mean? Its a common thing you are facing. There is only so much performance that you are gonna get with bolt ons and being NA.If you want real power in the neighborhood of
100hp+,you'll need to go FI.If you take the NA apprioach with bolt on,it can be costly.
You'll not have a tire smokin beast but a car that will feel lighter and be more responsive.
Traditional mods would belenum spacer, exhaust system including HFC's or test pipes and a proper tune.Headers are not worth the labor and expense. You could go with a cam
mod.If funds are available,a single turbo or,SC would do the trick. This depends on the condition of your engine given that you are driving a 03 Z.
I have a 03 Touring.I went the bolt on route and am pleased with the performance for a
DD.

Budget is somewhere between 5-7000. I've thought about going fi but I just don't know enough about it. I know what is does and all that fun stuff just good brands and that sorta thing used to be a jacked up truck guy so it's a new world for me. Any Intel in the right direction is great thanks again y'all

Depends on what your goals are. What do you mean by 'mean' ? You can get a used turbo/SC installed (if you do it yourself) and tuned for half of your budget (7,000), another 1500 on wheels (used for a nice set, brand new for a cheap set) that leaves 2,000 for other things like exhaust, lowering springs/camber kit and any body mods (lip kits or body kit or interior things like seats and cf dash/interior stuff).

By mean I mean there are a lot of Honda's and mustangs around where I live and every single one is the fastest around mostly I'd like to be left alone cause they know they can't hang. Where would you get a used turbo/sc that you could trust?

You can camp out on here and find someone selling a kit that's already pieced together. I don't think the stillen s/c will have you beating any 08+ Mustangs(especially with their bolt ons/tune) as they give HR Zs trouble stock. As for the Civics you have to think most of their cars=5k and they have 15k overnight parts from japan(if they had to) so they can be tough to hang with also since they have built everything, and VTec all up in your azz. lulz.. but srsly.
My suggestion is find one area you are passionate about and do your best to build to that.
My Z is a good looking(imo) prior daily that would get attention at a car show, but is also functional at a road course. Pretty, but functional.
If you just want to drag race those cars, you need to get fat tires and weld your diff and practice your reaction time!
Hopefully this helps!

The idea is to buy stuuf so when you get home, you install.
Going the SC or Turbo route unless you have hands on experience can open a can of worms to get everything working right.I suggest you contact a shop close to you to do the install.Find a shop that has Z experience installing
a SC.I'd recommend Z1 Motorsports in the Atlanta area. Not close to you but
they do these conversions everyday. It may be worth your time to take a trip there to get it done. The cost shouldbe within your budget.

agreed on exhaust, sounds like angels singing to me. FI would be fun, but it expensive and something will mess up eventually. if you have 5-7k to spend save a little longer and do an LS swap if you really want to have a sleeper....

im almost back from my deployment and I would not suggest forced induction. I would listen to what these guys r sayin for na mods to make u quick especially those gears. that'll give u play money for exterior sexiness. ur gonna make more than 7 grand down here though. especially if u re-op while down range. im assuming u have more in mind for the other money so K&n filter on stock intake box is best horsepower u can get, exhaust is preference because there all about the same power and those gears are suppose to b the **** but read up because ur suppose to b a lot higher rpms when cruising on the highway so ur fuel economy will suffer. equal length headers r suppose to liven up ur rpm range but they are right in sayin labor will cost a bit. plenium spacers are on the intake side and are a good choice because ur front cylinders r starved of some of the air u could b getting.
