Picked up a 2007 touring roadster this last Friday. I'm stoked!

Joe, the unique chrome wheels on your car are not a factory option per se, but something dealers could have plated at the Nissan U S distribution center by a contractor. Unfortunately a large number of them have been cracking around one or more of the spokes. There have even been some crashes caused by a wheel breaking all 5 spokes. Google NHTSA action number PE06050 for one of the US highway safety agency investigations on this mater.

A crack in the shiny chrome should be pretty evident so if you keep an eye on them you should be able to catch it before it spreads.

47,000 miles, 6 speed, $16,500

I have the original sales receipt. It indicates these wheels were a $1,800 factory chrome wheel option (and not a dealer option). I haven't done much research, so I'll look into the wheel thing.

I believe those chrome wheels are the factory options so should not have any problems with cracking. There was some concern with the 17" factory wheels cracking after they were chromed.

In addition to the different trim levels (base touring etc.) some options were offered such as the small color matched rear spoiler, the color matched splashguards and the chrome wheels. These options were factory authorized, but were installed by contractors hired by Nissan North America at facilities near the docks as per dealer orders.

If like me you spend all your free time reading the last 10 years worth of back threads on this and every other internet forum, you will find many, many instances of these 18 inch wheels developing cracks. Some of the Infinity SUV wheels with chrome wheels also developed cracks.

An extended search of the net will show lots of cases of these $1800 optional wheels developing cracks across the spokes. In some cases the cracks continued to spread until one or more spokes on the wheel actually broke. It only takes a minute to get up close and personal with your wheels and inspect the spoke area.
