Wassup guys. I recently bought a 2003 350z wit 86k. I had 2 modded and swapped maximas before this so im familiar wit the vq. Wen i drive the 350 i can sorta hear my tranny make a winding noise a lil. Is that normal? Its not loud but u can hear it. Also hear a little clicking noise wen i first pull off. My guess is a bad axle or one of those brake pad clips.

Being that a “lil whining noise” isn’t a standardized unit of measurement, it’s hard to give a definitive answer on how much whining is too much whining. However, the Z does have a bit of a noisy transmission and do to the fact that the gear wheels are probably twice the size as the little girly ones in your old Maximas, they will make a bit more sound when running. Also unlike a front wheel drive car, the transmission is right beside your right ear in a Z, so you most likely will hear more sound.

The clicking sound you described was very common on the early cars. Nissan devised a service bulletin on how to correct it.

Welcome to the forum. The clicking axles you mention are a fairly common problem and there is a really easy fix if you do a search it ill tell you everything you need to do. Does the whining regarding your gearbox happen all the way through the rev range?

holy horrible grammar..... axle click is common, for the drivetrain noise you are hearing, try replacing the trans and rear diff oil..... see if that gets rid of it
