About Time!!
Hey folks! Always been a Nissan guy and owned several including S13's and my last car, a pristine 1997 S14 Kouki LE trim. But I finally bought my first Z. OMG what an awesome driving machine! Its an 04 with 101k miles but its in superb condition, the original owner took really good care of it. I've got big plans for this Z. Full exhaust for starters and the typical intake mods to help it breath better and tune. Later I was strongly considering going with a Vortech supercharger set up but we'll see. I look forward to being an active member in this forum.
I had to replace a couple of things when I bought it; wheel bearings, radiator and cooling fan assembly. Also changed the oil and cleaned the headlights while the bumper was off. (still had to do the other one in this pic.)

Hey Leonardi, welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase of your 350Z. Keep us informed on what you're doing regarding mods.

As samsniss asked, any other immediate plans?
I would save money and just look for an 06 air box and throw a K&N filter in there. Plenum spacer and cat replacement would be on the list before the tune imo... (im rokin stock intakes, cats, and just have a GReddy catback. Plenty of power in the HR for my driving skills.
Keep er shiny side up!
WELCOME!!!
Daytona Blue is a great color. Probably my 2nd favorite after Pikes Peak White (fastest color btw)

Stuck between a COBB tune or Osirs though.. but I guess that is what the search button is for.
Thanks guys! Yes my immediate plans include test pipes (I'm in Florida so no emmisions) and nismo S-tune cat back. For some reason this car already came with a Injen CAI (which I hate because its so low and we do get some flooding here all year round.) All I did was change the actual filter because the original was literally disintegrating lol. I would like some long tube headers to go with the nismo y-pipe and catback but I just cannot justify spending that much money and labor to install them just yet. I may settle for shorty headers. Pretty much just want to get the car ready for the Votech by doing all the supporting mods before.

This was after 37+hour drive from San Diego. Luckily you can't hydrolock rotaries.
Did you make it a short ram or change the filter
As NoQuestionZ says, the '06 airbox is considered the best box to get for power gains as it has a venturi stack in it, so unless you're really into the induction noise of a cone filter I'd go for an '06 box. Alternatively there is someone on this site who sells a kit that contains everything you need to create your own venturi stack in a standard pre'06 box, Its not expensive. I'll see if i can dig out his name. This only applies to DE engines and not the later HR engine though.

But for now I was forced to just modify my intake piping to get that filter out of the ground. I know I'm probably robbing my motor of power without the heat shield but we had some gnarly rain last week and I was scared to drive the Z out of fear of hydro-locking it. All it takes is a few table spoons of water lodged in the filter and a nice quick rev to lock up a VQ haha... My bro has a the Pop Charger though and I was considering that for the time being..

That looks a lot safer from a heavy down pour, flooding situation, but you're right about heat soak from the engine to the filter though. Can you not fabricate something out of some sheet steel or extend the piping a little to get it away from the motor a little. Do you have any of the pipework you removed when raising it to its present position that you could use with a hump hose or coupling hose and clamps to join it all up thus moving the filter a little further forward? Sorry dude, just making a load more work for you. Just a thought.
