Default New 2004 350z. Need help with codes

my 350z is displaying a series of codes that I have not been able to make sense of.

Attaching a photo of the codes. Any help is appreciated.

The symptom is lack of power.

The car does have an aftermarket intake. The ECU has been reset. One
cam shaft sensor and the crankshaft sensor have been replaced. Also VVTs were cleaned up.

Start by troubleshooting the P1273 and P1283 and then go from there. At least you can clear those once you've performed the fix to confirm that the issue is resolved. (SEE THIS TSB)

Also, did you use OEM or aftermarket sensors on your previous repair? 350Zs hate aftermarket sensors for whatever reason.

What's the mileage on the car? Accident history? Other mods besides the AEM intake?

We used autozone cam shaft sensor and autozone crank shaft sensor. It has about 90K miles.

Unfortunately we don't a lot of history on the car. We do know it has a clean title. The only other mods that I know of is an after factory exhaust with no CATS. I don't know if the ECU was ever re-flashed for performance either. It also had a new EXEDY after market clutch just put in. It has had this problem since the clutch.

Based on the below feedback I got, I'm wondering if P1273 may be due to no CATS.

Are there any recommendations for sourcing sensors for better price the the dealership?

Like Travis said, Courtesy Nissan is a good source of parts. Also, you can get good prices on OEM parts from Z1 Motorsports (there's a link on the right column of this webpage).

Remember, a clean title only means that the car wasn't reported as being in an accident, which is why you should get any used car you're considering buying inspected before you purchase it. If you're running without cats and you live in California, I imagine you're going to have a hard time registering your car. With regard to the Autozone Parts, unfortunately, there are MANY reports on this forum of Z owners purchasing sensors from there that are incompatible with our ECUs.

Also, for all practical purposes, Nissan did a great job on the factory air box on the 350Z and you're going to get a reduction (albeit only a slight one) in performance with that aftermarket AEM intake. You might want to see if you can source out a factory box for your model year from a salvage yard or ebay and sell the AEM. I owned an AEM intake on my previous car (a Mitsubishi Eclipse) and though it did sound better than the factory box, it did absolutely nothing tangible for the car performance-wise.

Sorry you're off to a bad start with your car. Hopefully, after everything's sorted, you'll get lots of good miles out of it. Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the advice. I think we will get through this. The car actually was running very well just prior to replacing the clutch. I have read that an incorrectly installed flywheel can cause the lack of power symptoms, but that doesn't make sense to me since what I'm hearing is that there is only one way to install it. Do you have any opinion on that issue?

I think our course of action will be to try the new cam shaft sensor (hopefully we don't have to replace the Autozone sensor. If no luck possibly look at the solenoids . I forgot to mention that oil was pretty dirty.

At same time we could also check out the fuel pressure.

Update:
We changed both cam shaft position sensors and the crank shaft sensor. This eliminated two of the codes where now we are just getting the P0011 and P0021. I should mention that when we got the car the oil was very dirty.

This didn't fix the issue and the car still has a major loss of power. Also as of this morning we can't get it to start for more then a few seconds.

I've read a few threads that sometimes the cause can be a bad timing cover gasket, so I think we will look at that first before the solenoids.

Does this course of action make sense?

One other question: my son recently replaced the stock clutch with an Exedy clutch and chrome molly flywheel and actually that is when the problem started. Is there any way that a problem with the clutch or the flywheel could be the cause?

I had the same problem, I see you said your son installed a new clutch, 100% installed the wrong way. I’m sure he put the alignment pin 180 degrees from where it should be. My car had the same issue and I had the same codes.

Default Fixed!

The flywheel was reinstalled properly and its running great now with no codes.

Also found some used cats on Craigslist for $130 and the car passed smog today.
