I want pops
I just bought an 06 350z with less than 35k miles on it. It has test pipes and an Invidia Gemini Exhaust. It sounds great and I like the volume of it but it doesn’t pop/crackle as I let off the gas and the rpm’s drop. Do I just need a separate exhaust or can I somehow modify this one? If I need a new one which one should I get?

Its not the exhaust. Its your tune. You will need a new tune. Your quickest method will be to get a tune from Uprev. It will be in the $600-$1000 range for them to retune your ECU.
Jump on Uprevs site and/or give them a call.

I don’t have an UpRev Tuner near me. Does it have to be UpRev?

I dont want to dig into the fox-hole on the demographic of the OP ...
I think the OP wants a quick, mechanical, easy-piezy solution ... and the truth is there is none...and I think someone of his 'resource' will attempt to put together the ~$800 and fall short...lets let Uprev crush his dreams and not the respectable members on this forum.

I'll save you some hassle, and tell you to not bother contacting UpRev themselves, they will not touch a car with illegal modifications.
You will have to do some more research, and find a tuner who will remotely tune your car, and one who tunes for said 'pops.' Also, you should wait until you have completed every 'modification' that you plan to do.
With your current mods, I don't think you will be satisfied with the amount of popping... In fact, your car will do what you are wanting, even without a tune, with the right parts on it.

Damn I didn't think there would be so much hate especially between 350 owners. I pulled up to another 350 the other day and his exhaust would crackle as he let off the gas after revving it so I simply decided to post a thread asking how I can get mine to do that. Unfortunately all I got was a bunch of hate like gd.

You need to have thicker skin around here (and most forums); as most of the non-serious answers were just the usual jokers (laff, you know who you are.....) having a good time at your expense. Reason: there's a kind of a semi-justified (in my mind) attitude that trying to tune or build something into a car that just doesn't have the capacity to do legitimately leads to such joking around. (OK, "mocking" but it's not "hate".)
OK, so, in as serious an answer that I can render without you feeling "picked on", here's the thing.... "popping", as you called it, is what's called "afterfire", a condition in which unburned fuel actually ignites in the exhaust stream. It's "caused by" (or is a result of) a number of possible intentional conditions:
- A tune in which the ignition is retarded to the point of a "late" (in the power cycle) ignition spark so as to not be able to complete the combustion internally. Retardation (through tuning) is usually associated with a forced induction application so as to reduce the possibility of detonation under boost.
- Or it can also be... A state of over rich fuel delivery through a high pressure/high volume fuel system that runs the engine rich and incomplete combustion, leading to afterfire - again, usually associated with forced induction or a high performance normally aspirated ("NA") hot build (see next.)
- Or... cam timing/spec that leads to significant overlap between the intake and exhaust sides - associated with either forced induction or a high performance NA build that typically includes enhanced breathing on both sides, higher compression, high lift/high duration cams, etc.
So, when you ask a question in which you want to add in something that your car doesn't have the natural capability of doing without build specs as above, it's natural for people to shake their heads and joke about it. Don't take it wrong, it's a fair question; but alas, one that - as you found out - leads to a little good natured animal behavior.
So, the question is "Can you build it into your car without going FI or full engine build?" Well, yes. But do you want to? As was stated in the "serious answers", your car can be tuned to a point in which afterfire exists. BUT.... without turbos/supercharging or some form of built NA engine, the results will be abysmal, meaning that retarding spark on your unmodified engine or adding fuel (through ECM tuning) to the point of over saturation will diminish performance for the sake of the sound you want. IOW....you'd be going backwards to achieve a "cool" sound.
As a side note, not sure what the attraction of the sound is unless it's truly built. (Or #becauseracecar) My Datsun roadster burbles and pops all day long on every decel (even with blipped/heel-toe throttle) and its annoying. BUT, I live with it because that's the result of a hot cam, big Solex carbs and high compression. And those features are worth the aggravation.
