Default No power to interior fuse box?

Hey all, recently bought an ‘06 Z!
I was installing the ADD W1 overlay gauges but I’ve ran into a problem...
I’m trying to use a fuse tap to connect the wires into the fuse box, but I needed to know which one had power. I bought a tester light and prodded at all the fuses, and discovered none of them had power running through them?
My key was turned, and everything that is supposed to light up (like parking break light) was lit up, but there was still no power running through the plugs for the fuses (based off tester light). Very new to wiring and so far all I’m working off of is a couple yt videos.
Any help is appreciated, thanks so much!

You sure you had good ground? There's a piece a of metal above the pedals area. Also, there's a diagram on that cover to tell you which is which, but I used a prop tester and had no issues, mine lit up.
