This guy has got it right. Take time to read the threads, especially the link to the Ferrari forum when you come across it. It will take a while to read, but you'll know more about oil viscosity than you thought possible.

I'm not switching to synthetic until about 6,000 miles, but I agree that once you go synthetic, don't go back. My top choice for a mineral oil is Castrol GTX. I've used it in my other cars for the last 20 years and I've yet to have any problems at all with any of them. I have every car that I've ever owned and they all run perfectly. When I replaced the head gasket on my VW Vanagon when it was 15 years old I could still see the original factory scorings on the cylinder walls. I'd say that Castrol has done right be me no matter how you look at it.

According to what I've read in the engine wear threads, I would choose the Castrol European formula 0w-30 or Mobile 1 0w-40. I believe both are good and would feel confident using either. Personally, I have yet to decide which I'm going to use. It will probably come down to which is on sale when it comes time for me to switch ;o)

FWIW I REFUSE the dealership, and I have a FREE oil change waiting there. I take mine to the little jiffy lube style place by my house on a Friday night. No one is there on Fri night, so there is no wait, I can watch and talk to the guys working on it, and I can specify whatever I want oilwise.

I go with Mobile1, always have, personal preference for performance cars. But honestly, MOST people can use regular oil from generic oil inc, as long as you are making the changes at the specified intervals. Other than those tracking their cars, or playing Fast and Furious everyday, you probably arent going to really have an issue with normal oil.

I took mine into the dealership for the clutch recal, and I may NEVER go back again. I asked them to also change the oil after the recal work. Well after a WEEK in the shop, I find out the tech working on mine disasembled everything waiting on the recall kit to come in, and then was out sick for 2 days. So in the meantime they took the recall kit for MY Nismo, and did the recall on someone elses that came in 2 days later. So then I had to wait for another kit to be shipped to them, and be installed. In the process they of course forgot my damn oil change.

About the only thing they did right was NOT wash my car as requested!

I dont understand why everyone seems to take there car to Jiffy lube, changing the oil in this car is cake.

I just did it about 15 mins ago. Took me longer to go to Nissan to get the washers than to change the oil.

My parents get pissed when I wash my car in the driveway because the water flows into the mulch.

I can't imagine what they would do to me if they found oil spots in their driveway.

I completly agree with you that if I had the facilities to do it myself I would. But I guess looking at one positive for going to Nissan is when you sell the car they have a full service history from the dealer and it gives the buyer piece of mind...... or not

^ Well I have two friends that work as mechanics and both of them said Im better off doing it myself since they usually wont admit to damages. And I also had a friend blow his motor because the dealer didnt screw in the drain plug all the way on his eclipse.

But other than that, having the records would be a nice thing to have. And if your parents get pissed about oil on the drive way, take a little cat liter and brake cleaner spray and it will look good as new.
