Default First Oil Change

I know this thread has been beat to death. I have searched the forum, but there are about 10,000 threads that come up in the search, and it would take me 5 times as long to find the info I am going for. If you guys could give me a quick answer I would really appriciate it

Here is my question: Ready to get my first oil change. Going to do it at the 3000 mile mark. I am going to take it to a Nissan dealer.

1) For those of you who have gone to the dealer for the oil change, what do they use normally, what do you tell them to do (Synthetic or regular)?

2) Is the 3000 mark good? they say 3750, but I want to keep my car running well and I drive it relativly hard.

The Nissan dealer warned me that they will put whatever you want (synthetic or regular), but you can not go back after using synthetic. My main concern is if I tell them synthetic, and a dumb *** guy puts regular in after.... just because they may not be paying attention and it is the norm for the read out when they bring up the 350z on their computer..... it is Nissan I could easliy see it happing, and it would probably wreck my engine.

3) So for those of you who go to the dealer, how have your experiences been. What do you do?

Thanks

buy the oil yourself. it cost me $30 for 6 qt of mobil 1
my local nissan dealer did the change for $21 (no oil)
if you get them to put the oil in for you, they'll charge you double for the oil vs what you could pay at a store

I did synthetic right around 3700.

There is some debate about whether you should wait a bit longer until you use synthetic, but I think it's fine.

I told him that some advice against synthetic this early, so he can research further if he wants.

Thank you Sensi. Did you buy the oil yourself and hand it to them, or did you just tell them to use synthetic. I just dont trust the mechanics.

I did a bit of research on this and found that Penzoil Platum Synthetic was my best choice for spirited daily driving. There was an entire thread I read all about this stuff. Dont remember where tho.

The shop down the street from me had it and changed my oil for 50.00 and gave me 20.00 off my next plus I got a coupon in the mail for buy one get one free. Sweet deal.

Sweet thanks, I figure synthetic is probably better for the car anyways ....(they need a shifty eyes nervous face)

My thinking is that its kind of like a Twinky... Engineered to survive a Nuclear blast [Family Guy]

So logicly syntheic oil should be better than conventional.....(pretend there is a shifty eye face here)

Dealer will rape you for a Synthetic oil change, just DIY and save the receipts!

If I buy the oil myself what difference does it make I pay them to pour a can of syntheic instead of conventional?

Are disposial costs any different.

I assume there may be a different cost of disposial, but other than that I dont understand.

But your right I usually duct tape my *** cheeks together before I go to the dealer... but they allways find a way to get you

Best bet is call the dealer, why not DIY, I changed mine with Synthetic (got 18 quarts free from O-Reilley's last year) and I know it was done right. Too many horror stories from the stealerships! GL!

Ahhh but you know not of the wrath of my mother with a wooden spoon

Because if I get oil on the drive way, she will literally beat me, or worse my car!!!

for me its worth the money not to have to listen to her

+ my driveway is on a slope.

I can see the headline already.... "Another Z Tradgedy"... Dumbass drops car on head...

Before dropping the Z off, have you adn the dealer inspect the car for damages, have it noted, and I would watch them when they change it if you can. Also beofre leaving, check the oil and make sure the oil cap is on. Also check for damages before leaving!

FYI, minumum wage folks change your oil!

Why not?
What is the reasoning?
Is there empirical data to support this claim?

I'll be buying the oil and filter myself soon and taking it to a local shop for the labor.

You got me... I have no idea why you can go from one to the other, but not back again.

Maybe the engine gets confused

Lol so hell may as well take it to my local Jiffy Lube, at least I can watch them while they change it there. And I have to say if I didn't go there before with my fathers car I would mock me, but when they see a nice car after dealing with your average civic, they damn near bow down to the thing.

Plus its probably about $30 with oil too.

The dealer I go to offers either Mobil1 or Motul 5w-30 for just about $48 with tax.

From reading the oil threads, mobil1 0w-40 looks to be a good choice, but buying it separately, then bringing it in would make it rather expensive.

I understand your hesitance with the dealer, but in the end, it's just an oil change. The only thing I'd worry about is when they put the car on the lift.

You can pay more at another shop for piece of mind, but the result would be the same.

WOW lots of bad advice on this thread.

I change my own oil after reading a ton about it. Castrol German 0W-30, M1 0-40 and RP 10W-30
