Take one little vacation and come back to the thread of the century...
Let's see if I have this right... never mind, I'll wait for the movie... Casting for the OP would be the kid from the transformers movie... coming to his defense would be... just let me know when the movie comes out, the book is way to complicated.

I didn't read all these pages but i read enough to add some input. It is very very possible for a 19-year old teen to afford a Nismo if he really wanted on his own. However for this to be extremely possible the parents wouldnt really help with "money" itself but more along the lines of their credit and insurance.
For instance i have a buddy who is 18 and makes 20 an hour working in a laborer's union. He makes close to 680 a week and is currently living with his parents. His parents are nowhere near rich yet if he really wanted he could easily afford 600+ for the car payment and while listed as a "co-owner" of the car may pay 200 a month for insurance. Is 800 a month plausible for an 18 year old kid living at home making 680 a week? Your damn right it is and he would still have plenty left over. He doesn't have a 40k car at all and is using the money right now to buy tools as he is switching over to a real skilled-trade for big money in the end. Would he be working for that car? Your damn right he would....it's very very tough work as it is LABOR.
Now there aren't many teens with those circumstances but yet it could be easily possible. Teens can afford Z's and have worked for nearly all of it. I am only 18 and plan to soon own an 04 Z or so with low miles and my dad doesnt give me ****. I go to college and he pays a small amount of the large tuition bill and i let my grants and scholarships pay the rest. His main contribution is that "You get to live here for free" which is absolutley true. I work as a waiter and make around 14-15 bucks an hour and can afford the 250 payment on the car and the 120 insurance payment listed as a co-owner secondary driver.
Understand that I am not saying it is easy for a teen to afford a 350Z or another expensive sports car with no help....actually it would quite impossible unless you have a very good job right off the start such as my Laborer friend.
HOWEVER all of you who have kids know that you dont expect your children to have to work for everything when their young maybe like you did becuase it's your child and you want to help. There is a common line from a little bit of help from parents such as maybe being on their insurance to keep it low and help with an initial downpayment (my dad gave me 1500 towards my first car and i am thankful) I worked for the other 2000 over summers and school.
All i am saying is anyone who thinks it's impossible for a teen to afford a 20-25K sports car by working his *** off and not having that much outside help maybe should just better re-think things or learn to budget their money more. A wise man once said it's not how much money you make, it's how you spend it. I am a bargain shopper and i know how to save and not get myself into credit trouble or drugs or anything. Can i afford a 35k car if i REALLY wanted? Yes i could actually using the money from what i already have from my paid off eclipse and spending about 650 a month, I make about 400 a week when i work 4 days, the amount i will work during school(i work 5 right now). Would spending 600-650 a month be a huge crunch on my 1600-1700 a month income? No not really but do i want to or feel i NEED that nice of a car at my age? Hell no i don't and plus then my parent would stop helping me out with college money by saying if i have that much money to spend on a car then pay for my own college.
My point is, it's very possible for teens to have nice expensive cars and pay for the majortiy themselves except you have to set goals and limits and work hard. My 7.50 an hour job was ok but i knew that by serving i could make a whole lot more. Was this position hard to get? No not at all honestly and they need more servers it's just that you have to look for a better job/work harder/save better if you expect to afford these and 90% of teens are bad with money. I consider myself among the top 10% of them because i grew up around cheapskates. Don't hate on young kids with nice cars really becuase they may have worked for it. I know for a fact i hear people say my parents bought my eclipse and stuff when in all actuallity it's not that hard...i bought this myself when i was 17 with 2000 help from my family towards the total cost of 8k. I saved a couple summers and worked through the school year and now it's paid off. I can't imagine when i own my Z which will be very soon what people will say. I am biased too even being a teen. I see a kid with an STI and i think parents probably bought him it instantly becuase they have something nicer than what i have however this could not be the case.
On the other side though....80% of the kids i would say with expensive *** cars worth over 15k did NOT work for it really...but then there are those that do.
Just my 2 cents

Sponging (maybe a bit harsh) off of your parents for most of your true living expenses and then buying a $40,000 car does NOT entitle you to pretend like you are self supporting. I could afford a Lambo if I lived with my parents (not really practical at 52 years old, lol) I could also afford a Lambo if I dipped into my 401k or investments, or my home equity, could pay cash for it even. Wonder if those 19 year olds are contributing to an IRA or 401k, or any other type of savings or are they spending every last nickel? Not a great way to start your adult life if so.
