Because they were full of **** with the 07s. I'd kill for 20, honestly. Typically, my average, between city and highway, is 19. I don't rip on it -- in fact, I tend to shift, during normal driving, in the 2k range.

When I said I don't rip on it, I meant all the time. Because I rip on it... a lot.

If you clear everything then start at a full tank, and go to E. Then keep in mind fuel effect driving... i.e. low rpm shifts, sixth gear after 55mph on the highway, and when possible use cruise control. I think most of the sticker estimates will be meet. Yet driving the car most of us own, we tend to shift at 3500 to 4000 rpm to 4th gear just to crack a smile. We blip the gas, we engine brake, and sometimes we speed so when all that is factored in 17-20mpg is what we see, and figure what the hell happen...

^^^ I mean, I do all of the above...My350z drivers are only enthusiastic on the track...

+1

Actually the Z is a bizzare beast. When driving in city or anytime I flip on my MPG guage it always reads 16-18.

However if I drive 60 on the highway in 6th gear the reading stays at a consistant 30 mpg. Then as soon as I even tap the gas it goes down to 23 or so.

At my last auto cross I averaged 5 MPG. Someone at green peace cried themselves to sleep that night.

So stated MPG is acheivable, but not realistic. especially with the fun factor factored in.
