Default Thinking about going FI...next week

Hey everyone. Just recently happened upon the right amount of cash to go FI with my Nismo. To date, I’ve gone true dual, adjustable coilovers, bumped up wheel/tire size, HFC & intakes. The power and speed with these improvements is sweet….but…

Currently looking at the Greddy kit 20G turbos with about 470-500 hp to the wheels. I’m blinded by the fact that I can finally see a dream come true. Are there any good (objective) reasons why I should reconsider? I will also be switching out the clutch to a JWT racing clutch.
Will be utilizing Haltech mapping.

Making my final decision tomorrow and plan on dropping the car off next week. If I do it I'll try to include pics of the build and definitely end stats.

Go...or...No go? Your reasons why not?

Thanks

Absolutely GO! Do not reconsider. Do it now. Safe and smooth on this great engine. Drives heavy without it but light as hell with it. There are very few cars that can match the speed with it. Nissan should offer the car with the turbo just like previous years. They definitely would get a serious upcharge with it and it would be worth it.

I had my car 18 months pre-turbo envying all that made the leap. What a leap it was!
The track cars in the 350z's class can't touch it now.

Power / Torque from 1st thru 6th. N/A becomes embarrassing without the turbo. I went with the APS single track model, bulletproof, solid, little or no lag, tuned to perfection. Powder coated black the intercooler so it's invisible. Acts like a muscle car V-8. The key is tune it to your needs. 500 HP sounds high and dangerous for a stock engine, one missed shift, hard cornering-fuel starvation blip and boom! 450-475 to Fly/W, 385-400 to the rear wheels, 9 psi is considered safe. Some guys claim 500 so be careful and know your risks.

Couple of minor downsides. No engine or drivetrain warranty! Dealers won't touch it and neither will Nissan. Don't expect anyone to give you any more for your car if you sell it turbo'ed up. Most buyers don't want to buy turbo'd cars but they will install it on their own ride. You'll need to save all your parts so you can remove the turbo, return your car to factory, sell the turbo parts off the car and sell your car stock.

It's like owning a 1200cc crotch rocket on 4 wheels. Do not hesitate and pony up the $8 to $10 large!

Too funny! Thanks for your input. My girlfriend is laughing at me for even posting this question...she's said it's the best way to keep me from wanting a $100k+ car 3 years from now.

After talking to my tuner, they believe that the 470hp will be relatively safe on the HR motor. Anymore and I would need to change out rods and pistons.

Thanks again...everyone around me is making this decision easy.

FYI there are HR's here pushing 580 RWHP with just bolt on kits. The HR can safely handle that.

Do it, you will be so happy, the car is so responsive now, the hardest thing is to just drive slow all the time not to go over the speed limit, it just wants to go fast!

580 without build?? Is there such a thing as going too fast?? LOL.

Here in AZ they have cracked down so much I'm almost too scared to drive my car. I'm not joking when I say there are police around every corner. Also, in Phoenix, they've posted speed cams on all major highways (about every 4 miles).

This is great. I just wanted to take a second to review before taking the plunge.

honestly I'll stay around 380/400 at the wheel... keep the car drivable, a lot of torque, minimum turbo lag and a safe and reliable tuning.

Unfortunately, by the time I need the warranty (when the car is old), mine will be expired. From what I've read about other's experiences with that much HP...the fun out weighs the risk....I hope. LOL.

Thanks

Post pics too when you do, I really wanted to do the same on my Nismo, I really felt that the car should have came with a turbo.

But instead of putting more money into it, I opted to just buy a 240sxHatch and drop a Sr20t, that way I keep the warrenty on the Z and I can still play with a turbo.

I also am not a home owner yet and plan on buying my house before I keep throwing money away in my cars you know.

Live the dream for me and good luck.

For sure!

Apparently a lot of Nismo owners agree that car should’ve came with a lot more power. Why Nissan opted to leave the twin turbo option off the Z33 is beyond me, but I’m tired of having a car that looks business but keeps getting its azz handed to me.

Fit and finish the 350 is really a nice car, but the extra power will put the brand “Nismo” where it should be.
When I get off the fence on this and actually do this (this week) I’ll have my tuners follow the process and I’ll post those pics.

Try tuning the car at 380-400RWP on the safe side to see if it's all you need. The lower HP allows you to tune it for torque and power to come on at 3000 - 3500 rpms, 9 psi. It's amazing what you'll discover there.

I drove someones 350z first with a built engine at 15 psi, 650 RWP, The boost came on huge at 4500 rpms, breaking the *** away. When I tried it I almost bailed on the Turbo because this ride didn't feel natural. Good thing the tuner convinced me that this was a custom tune and didn't recommend it for me in my z.

Just a thought before you get lost in the seduction of all the power that's available.

Yeah, I've been doing a lot of reading and decided to hold off for right now. Numbers wise, it seems like 600hp is a great thing because Z06s, vipers, and GTRs seem to pull this off (with help) without becoming insanely uncontrollable. My tuner also mentioned that beyond 500hp the car may actually become undrivable on the streets.

The option is still on the table for me, but I would hate to dream about this, follow through with it only to realize the car becomes scary rather than fun.

Go...because you just came up on $8-$12k in cash and you can always just do what ever it was again! F/I the Nismo!

Wow...Been a member less than a month and your car is loaded! Congrats...I hate you!

BTW, I've noticed that mostly everyone that goes F/I sells their cars a few weeks after...I don't know why, they just do.

So PM me in a few weeks and let me know who I have to sell my kidneys to, and I'll buy your turbo Nismo!
